Hi

Is there any biomedical/medical laboratory scientists out there seems like me and my OH are the only ones who want to work out there! starting to worry now!

Hey I'm an analytical chemist go to Qld in 2 weeks struggling to find jobs regional but big cities like Brisbane seem to have a lot the recruiters have said there's a bit of a slow down and competition for jobs but won't have a problem in big cities. Scary but I'm hoping I'll find something good luck! Haven't seen much in the way of biomed but I think melbournes your best option as its quite big for pharma companies I think

My OH is a biomedical scientist. We're heading for Brisbane at the end of July. We've heard that there's still a shortage and that jobs are not being advertised due to lack of candidates. So depending on your field, you might want to consider just getting your CV ready to send out 'on spec'. We're not reliant on my OH finding work straight away but she'll certainly be wanting to get back to work fairly soon. Will let you know how we get on. When/where are you headed over?

Well just about to lodge our 175 so probably about 18 mnths was just trying to get a feel for things, not sure where to head yet going to travel for a bit. I have some family in perth so maybe that way. Will u keep me posted if your OH gets a job and whats around etc. Good luck with the move.

It depends on funding evidently. Am friends with someone in research and they beg beg beg for funding so guess this flows through to jobs. She is also in Brisbane.

Eeps! Glad this thread appeared!! I am planning of coming on on my partners visa in Oct so so.
I am completing my PhD in diabetes biomarkers and I am really panicking about finding work!

I have no idea where to look (or if I want to stay in research after the PhD).

A few months to worry about it yet! Thesis and viva to get through first!!!

I am a microbiologist but applied as a teacher. Hoping to head back to research sometime in the near future now that my son is older and I don't need to be at home in the school hols
