My client has several salons in Perth. They are looking for hairdressers for long term employment.

Applicants must have:

A minimum of 4 years hairdressing experience

A hairdressing trade qualification

Already be in Perth or arriving soon.

Currently hold a valid work visa such as a working holiday visa.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Hairdresser to get both a long term job and gain permanent Australian residency.

To apply please email your resume to jason@southerncrossalliance.com or call +61 2 9386 9452

If you look at the original post, it says they want people who already have a valid visa to work in Australia. What they're offering to do is then, after a few years, nominate them to get permanent residency. They're not offering to get you the initial work visa.

A 457 visa is a visa that lets you work on a temp contract with one employer, who sponsors you. You must stay with that employer for the duration of your visa - if you leave, you'll have 90 days to find another sponsor, or you'll have to leave the country and return to the UK. It's not that easy to find another sponsor, because sponsoring is a hassle, so a lot of employers simply don't want to be bothered with it.

There are two reasons employers sponsor a migrant on a 457 visa. Either they're struggling to find good quality employees in Australia, OR they don't want to employ an Australian because they can't exploit them! The trouble is that employers know 457 workers don't want to go home, so you may get asked to work unreasonable hours, or are otherwise treated badly, because they know they've got you over a barrel. They may promise to sponsor you for permanent residence after 2 years or 4 years, but a month or two before the deadline you'll suddenly be made redundant.

Of course there are reputable employers who look after their 457 workers, you just need to be aware that the other sort exist too, and be on your guard. Also bear in mind that on a 457 you're on a contract, not a permanent employee - so if the company gets into financial difficulties, you'll be the first out.

The 457 can be a great option if you're just after an adventure and don't mind if it doesn't last forever. For a single person it's definitely worth a shot, but for someone with a family it's a bit too precarious IMO.
