Smile Would you take White Goods to Auz

I have heard that fridges and washing machines cost a fortune in Auz we are moving to NSW around March as we are renting our house in UK and have to leave white goods would we be better off to buy a giant fridge and washing machine in the January sales and take to Auz in the container???

      Any info would be grateful.

      Thanks Maria

I personally think it is beneficial to bring white good to Oz if they are relatively new items but if they are more than 18 months old then I am not so sure. We brought our 2 year old washing machine which broke after 2 months resulting in a new one anyway. Of course I am sure this doesn't happen in every case but is relevant to our situation. We were advised not to bring a fridge by our packers. HTH.

WE brought fridge ,washer ,dryer , fridge is now garage fridge (beer) washer is good and dryer. If you buy new take them out of the packaging remember your laundry gear will be going in the laundry room not the kitchen so some cosmetic weathering can make them age a bit use youyr fridge as well .

Hi Folks, this is a dilemma for us. However, can I ask, how do cope without these items when you are waiting for your container to arrive???

Our shippers have said we cant take our fridge because its over 5 years old and probably not CFC free. Im gutted because its a great be larder fridge.

For washing clothes, we used the launderettes. However, that being said for the last week I got fed up of going there so hand washed them in the bath. They soon dry on fine sunny days.

Cooker - our rental has one in. Not sure if all rentals do. Also we purchased a BBQ. We ended up and still do use that much more than the cooker.

Fridge - we bought as rental didn't have one.

You can buy second hand stuff to manage till yours arrives, then sell it on again. or you could hire what you need.

Do some online research before you commit to buying in the UK and shipping; what happens if it breaks within the first year, are you covered by warrenty in another country?

You can buy cheap stuff or go all out; my 60l fridge/freezer was $350, front loader 5kg washing machine $500, chest freezer $360. It depends on where you shop and how much you're prepared to haggle; they give big discounts if you negotiate.

To give you an idea I just bought a top rated 7kg front loader washing machine for approx 380 pounds.

Wouldn't buy a giant fridge as you don't know what size you will need for your kitchen in OZ.
