anyone using skype on broadband dongle?

is anyone using skype on a mobile broadband dongle we use skype 2-3 times a week for about an hour a time. It seems to be cheaper to have a dongle instead of home phone line + internet (we've got mobiles for calls within oz)

but does anyone know how much data skype uses with or without video. I'm hoping to get away with 2gb per month but don't know if this is realistic taking skype usage into consideration.

Hi Ratchet

We use Skype with a Virgin internet dongle, mainly so we can keep a tab on what we're spending until we get more organised finance-wise.

It works fine, call quality is really good - I have copied our statistics below for you and we use about $50 every 4-6 weeks depending on whether the kids forget to disconnect after they have been online or not LOL :arghh:

103.41MD uploaded data

749.22MB downloaded data (these figures are for last month's usage)

Hi You

Hope you are getting settled in your new home.

We had Skype in our rental property and used a 6 gig dongle from 3, at $39 per month quality was fine, however, if you are considering a dongle double check that they do cover your area as 3 don't cover all of metro yet.

Also remember that if you do go over you will get charged extortionate fees, unles you are on a PAYG one and then it will just cut off once you have used your allowance. One of our clients got the shock of her life using a virgin dongle and was hit by a bill of over $1000 for the month as her son had been downloading software etc.

In regards to how much skype would use then you would be looking at around 1 mb which is 500k upload and 500k download per minute without video.

Hope this helps
