Moving to Sydney

Hello, I need some advice and ballpark figures if anyone can help me! My wife and I are moving to Sydney. We are well travelled but never been to aus. My base of work will be in two areas one is Liverpool and the other is Epping (NSW 2121) does anyone have any suggestions for rental areas. we are a social couple like to go out enjoy the outdoors, love the sea and walking big fans of effective transport networks but dont want to be to far out of things. We will both be working and we have no family members so nice appartments are a definate consideration!

Whats the cost of living like, i know it is expensive but cant be as expensive as manchester, i paid 5.00 for a beer, a bloody fiver!!!!

I live in Carlingford which is next to Epping. It is a very nice area with very good public transport. I'm not really sure on rental costs as my husband is in the Navy and so we get cheaper rent anyway. The cost of living though is surprisingly expensive though except for the public transport and petrol.

Does the Navy have a actual estates with married patches, or are the married quarters spread all over? I'm looking to get out there next October with a view to move into a married quarter, but unsure of the areas. Ive had a look on the DHA website but most of the houses up for sale are all down Sutherland way.

The Navy have loads of houses all over but you have to be activated on the internet site that has them all on there. There will come a time when you have your visas etc when they will give you your PM keys number which authorises you to see the correct site,
Not too sure myself how it happens as my husband dealt with it all but you will get it. Alot of Brits move down south but we like it where we are as it's quieter and a lot more shopping centers.
