Arachnophobia

One of the things that terrifies me most about living in Oz is the fact that I will come face to face with really big spiders. Is there any way you can deter them from coming into your house or garden or even a spray that kills them.

All suggestions appreciated.

Im not keen on them either but it`s amazing how quickly you get used to them - having said that I`ve come across a few redbacks in the patio area, so the pest guy is coming out tomorrow to spray the house - cost about $120 but worth it. I always wear gloves when doing the garden as well - just to be safe.

Does the spray just get rid of the ones that are already there or does it deter others?

There is no way to deter them. Our house is pretty well gap free (except for the garage) but I came across a monster Hunstman on the wall. I tried to catch it with a pint glass but it wasn't big enough by half. I ended up using a waste paper basket to cover it and throw it outside.

We have used gallons of Baygon in the past and all to no avail. But as per the previous post, you do get used to them

My wife was absolutely terrifed of them and her work has an outside toilet that is teaming with White Tails Spiders which can give a bnasty bite, though not fatal. Even she is used to them now and is pretty philosophical about it. "Spray and let die."

Just make sure if your gardening you use gloves, don't leave shoes in the garage or on the porch.

enjoy

First of all, it isnt necessarily the big ones that are the ones to be wary of - white tails for example arent that big and red backs arent huge compared with daddy long legs. The best thing you can do is to get treatment for your phobia - there are some very effective therapies and it will make your life much easier so you will be able to splat, spray or relocate them with impunity. Nothing deters them I'm afraid!

I'm not so bothered by the smaller, more toxic ones... for me its those great big hairy eight legged freaks thay call..HUNTSMEN
I think I will die of fright the day I set eyes on one. If they are as big and fast as I think they are they will be scraping me up off the floor after I pass out...
Not looking forward to any encounters with the little (big) bleeders...

Anyone who saw me on WDU will know me and crawlies dont exactly 'get along' ,lol, in fact my only fear when moving here were the crawlies, but you have a good pest spray on your property and you shouldnt get very much wandering around at all. The pest spray will kill anything there and deter any others from entering ,my yearly pest spray is $250,thats for inside and out, round the pool, shed etc but i dont even get ants near the house when its done so great value for money in my eyes. Overall its not as bad as you think it will be ,i see more daddy long legs than anything else and they dont bother me,lol.

I have been looking it to some sort of therapy, hypnotism or something like that but so far no joy. I will deffo be living in the highest rise'd apartment I can find and will not have any greenery around me lol I know this wont make a difference but I can pretend lol

Hi

Hi I am a hypnotherapist - and can honestly say hypnotherapy does work very well for arachnophobia - any phobia actually - but usually takes at least 3 sessions to be effective - hope that helps.

This to is the main thing I am worried and scared about , I HATE SPIDERS, doesnt help when britlad (jake) shows me you tube videos of huntsman coming under the sun visor when the bloke was driving!! I would s**t myself and probably crash!!
My sister is even more scared than me she was bathing her 4 little kids and a big black spider ran across her boobs! She screamed all the kids were screaming she left them

all crying while she was crying and ripping her t.shirt off her husband had to get kids out of bath while she rang me in tears saying Im never coming to Australia!!! Did make me think how i would be if i come across a huntsman. Will be getting pest people out, please dont tell me it dosnt work cause im counting on what Cal said and it made me feel a little better.... love Julie xxx
