Hi
Just wondering what are the equivalent shops for electrical appliances in Oz. Is it better to buy appliances from UK like breadmaker, Coffee machine, etc. Are there good brands available in Oz as well? Was trying to find on the web but the results were very disheartening.

We may not have as many different stores as the UK - but I've found I've always been able to buy what I need. We have the same choice of products as the UK.
You're not allowed by law to change electrical sockets in Australia, unless you're a qualified electrician. Therefore for the most of us, you'd end up with heaps of foreign adapters for each appliance!!
I'd recommend buying your items here - rather than bringing them. In fact when my Mum comes out later this year, that's what she's going to do.
I agree, buy new stuff here - you wont have to use adaptors, your guarantee will be valid and you know that there will be a repair agent for whatever you have bought just in case it does go kaput.
We dont have quite the range that they do in UK but we arent exactly a third world country and we do get some quite good stuff. My favourite is Harvey Norman (no affiliation yada yada) - I usually shop around and then they will more than price match anything else I have found - havent had anything dud from them yet and their local computer repair man is a genius

There's also Clive Anthonys on the Gold Coast; bought my telly from there, very reasonable. As Cal said, KMart, Big W, Target department stores are good for small appliances. They have a new weekly special offer catalogue out every week, and there's usually a half price toaster/blender etc. Also, Aldi have the odd bit in, and have washing machines/tumble driers occasionally for less than the big retailers.

My friend has an excellent coffee machine, but it cost her a fair bit she said. Great though, we love coffee at her place; you know who you are if you're reading this!
