I am not 100% sure as we have not shipped our goods yet but I can tell you what the company I am with has told us.
We are shipping our goods to Melbourne through 'Robinsons International' and they told us it would take around 8-12 weeks...not sure how long in customs guess that can take as long as a piece of string cause they might go through everything with a fine tooth comb or just have a sneak pic and this is costing us around £2'000.
As for things you cannot take with you they gave us a list...which I am trying to find. I know some things of the top of my head. You cannot take wicker baskets cuase I had to get rid of all mine :( you are not allowed to take bed matresses and quilts! If you want to take your hoover it has to be stripped down and thoroughly cleaned-we thought it was easier to get rid off!
We sold our house with all white goods in cause I am sure we got told they would be no use in oz...also tv's!! Or anything electrical I think!
I hope all this helps. I'm sure more people will add to this and help you! If I remember anything else and find the list I will add more.

We are thick in the throws of preparing to be packed up, Removals have just been here an hour ago to go through some details with us, but in answer to your questions (we are relocating from the Netherlands but it will be very similar from the UK):
3 days to pack and load
weekly departure from NL port
31 days from NL port to Sydney
3-10 days in customs
Delivery to selected destination
As for pillows and duvets, our are coming with us, I have checked all of my literature and cannot find anything to the contrary. The main NO NO is any natural fibres, wickery stuff! Be thorough with your Christmas decorations. No aerosol cans, chemicals, etc.
I have never heard anyone saying that you cannot take matresses or quilts and pillows I have just bought a new mattress and quilts and was hoping to take them with us. Can anyone who has shipped their furniture or has spoken to the removers been told that they cannot take these goods.
Thanks Susan

Hi there... Just had a quick chck on the quarantine website... for matresses it seems that something called coir fibre is found in some matresses... this needs to be inspected...
with pillows duvets etc it would be an issue if they contained feathers... there would need to be treatment done by aqis for this...

Ours took 12 weeks from leaving our home to being unpacked in WA. We brought duvets and mattresses - you can't bring them if they contain feathers, the guys who packed wrapped everything up. You can bring xmas decs and xmas trees providing there are no pine cones on them - even remove plastic ones.
