Advice requested - regarding removals

I wonder if anyone can help. Pickfords rang me about doing a home visit to see what stuff we want to take, but when I said I didn't think I would have a residential address in Melbourne until we had got there and looked for a place to rent, they said I would have to give a residential address and phone number for the delivery. Is that right?

I don't know how we will find our rented address until we are actually in Australia, I thought I could email the removal company once we were settled after a week or so - isn't that what most people do ? Or should we be looking to rent from the website, beforte we leave here? I'm afraid I will choose a town we won't like, then have to uproot the children again ... can anyone please give me advice?

Also - has anyone used 1st contact or excess-baggage? I know Crown has been mentioned a lot on this forum, so am going to get a quote from them. But Allied Pickfords scared me today and made me think I was mad to not have aplace arranged already !!!

Diane

Hi Diane,
Yes you do need to give an address
Do you have any friends or family address's that you can use in the area you are moving too ? if not im sure some of the nice peeps on this site would offer you to use there address.

We have done this for a couple of peeps and you just contact the removal company when you get here and have sorted your rental (which im sure will be before your furniture)

Have you looked at rentals online Rental Properties, Lease and Holiday Rentals - realestate.com.au=
good luck

Hi Diane
We used Crown and just gave them the address of our holiday let. Once we'd sorted out a longer term rental then we let them know that address.

We used Allied Pickfords and they were great..... we used my OH job's address and telephone for our contact address as we didn't have an address to give them and that was fine...

good luck
