This may sound like a silly question but what is tank water ? yes we know it's from a tank. Whilst we are aware of Bore water and understand about bore holes, we are a little confused, this is what we think, Rain in gutters/downpipes is sent straight to a tank and is then pumped into filters and then into the house.....right? OK what happens if you run low on water ? do you get a tanker to come an fill your tank back up?
Why are we asking? well a number of houses we have looked at, on the internet, have tank water, it just so happens that some of those houses were the best we've looked at.....
Hi,
yes the tank water is from the rain and downpipes etc,
when we were out in the bush (a bit not too far as of yet !!!) we did see a water tanker delivering to a property but i guess they deliver all over to properties but i guess there may be some restrictions - see attached http://www.gwmwater.org.au/com/pdf/Fact%20Sheets/GWMWater%20domestic%20carting%20program.pdf

We are on the Gold Coast, just a few miles from beach, most of the houses near us have water tanks. When there are water restrictions in place, you are not allowed to wash your car, water the garden or fill up pools etc from your hosepipe connected to the main water supply, but instead you connect a hose to your water tank and can do all these things using this water. Where we are they have relaxed the water restrictions until end of March as the local dam is full, but that will probably change.

We have Tank water and trickle feed town water ,we by far perefer tank water it tastes sooo much better. We now have 3 large tanks and havnt used town water for months, hope this helps a bit
Cal x
Is tank water the sole source or is it a backup for mains water? We have a tank off the garage which we use for drinking water and gardening water, our other water usage is mains water.
My inlaws live in the bush and they have 3 huge tanks and are independent of town water. They live down in Ballarat and even though there has been a drought they havent had to buy any in yet. You can buy in water by the tankerload if you run out, some people also have dams and pump out of the dams when their tanks get low. Some properties have a frontage onto streams and rivers and may have permission to pump out from the river. Tank water tastes a whole lot better than the stuff out of the tap!
We have tank water for our washing and loos..When it runs empty it automaticaly switches to town water...Also we have no water restrictions here in Beerwah yayyyyy...Can wash our cars and use as much as we like...However after being on restrictions for the last few months we are now really water conscious...So we still try not to waste it Jo x
Is tank water treated or filtered in anyway?? Wont the tank water stagnate over time if not replenished? Just curious about how it all works and is safe to drink??

Perfectly safe to drink - that is all we drink these days! It is filtered when it goes into the tank and no, it doesnt get stagnant and the tanks are fully enclosed unlike your regular rainwater butt so they dont get sunlight on them to allow algae to grow. One tends to use it pretty much all the time so it is always going up and down (hopefully we have more UP as it is getting a bit low at the moment!)
