Hi Liz.

Uk TV's work on a different PAL to Australia, so unless you can switch it (on the back of the set, not very usual) our portable flatscreen we can change but our older main tv we cannot.
HOWEVER - it will only not work on regular TV there (which is pants anyway) If you plan to get satalite, it will be fine and it will also work with your DVD player/Games consoles etc.

TV's are WELL expensive in Aus, so we decided to take ours and use it in the 'rumpus'/playroom for dvd player.

The voltage thingy is fine to ujse with our tv's just need to change the plug!

We brought a 6 yr old Sony widescreen with us which when plugged in gave a picture but no sound. I had heard from other sources that if wired up through a digital set top box (cost AUD$50-100) it would give sound. Did this and works perfectly.

Hi,
Just remember that oz plugs dont have fuses in them so if your running expensive Tvs or computers off them make sure you have it plugged into a surge protector otherwise your equipment could go bang
Also I dont think TVs are WELL expensive here, depends where you shop for them i suppose, shop around and haggle !

Hi,
If your tele is fairly new you will probably be able to change the type of PAL system / signal it receives (look through your settings on the TV) You would need to change it to Germany (if Austalia isn't an option obviously) as they run the same PAL system as OZ. I contacted samsung and all their teles and dvd recorders will switch over quite happily. I can't imagine th big companies making a different tv for each country in europe so it would probably be a fairly reasonable assumption that it would be 'switchable'.

This may be a stupid question...so i will say sorry in advance,

but if i brought a uk extention and pluged all the tv/dvds into that with their own fused plugs..so i only need to change the extention plug to an Ossie one would that work and still protect the tv etc???

Pat

Yes it would work the same then as in the UK... BUT a fuse is not a surge protector as such, so dont rely on that if you are truly concerned.

In Australia they use the PAL B/G signal type so make sure your tv is able to ouput this signal type. Best to check with the manufacturer. A list of signal types by country is listed here: World Television Standards

How much more expensive are the tvs in Australia... is it worth buying a tv here and shipping it over?

Colin
