Hi guys, I will be arriving in Perth between June & August this year. I will be coming on a 457 visa (sponsored) so will need to rent for a while untill we are all set and can eventually get residencey and a mortgage. We still haven't decided where to settle and coul really do with some advice. I have 2sons aged 11 & 7 so will need to find schools. Any advice is welcome and much appreciated
Hi, One of the first things is where will you be working and what sort of commute do you want because these things will determine where you look for a rental. I got a job offer in Armadale and as initially it would be working shifts I didn't want more than 30 mins commute. We live in Leeming which is a 25 min journey to work - against the flow of traffic going into the city so a really pleasant drive. I do know some people who worked in Armadale but lived over an hour away and after a while the commute became too much and they moved more locally to where they lived.
Thanks for the reply Ali, commuting will not be a problem for me as I will be flying out to mining sites for two weeks at a time, as long as I am within traveling distance of the airport is fine. My wife will not work to start with until the kids are well and truly settled in school. I have heard Armadale mentioned quite a few times, it sounds like a nice area for families. How are the local amenities, transport links and schools?
Hi Gwdunc, we are currently trying to gain employment for my partner under the 457 sponsored visa but finding it quite hard to find jobs and employers willing to look overseas for employees.any ideas or help please, we want ot get over there asap.we too have 2 children but they are 5 and 3 and we need to be 100% on employment before moving for them Thanks Sabrina
Hi Gwdunc, We were advised by my o/h's boss not too move to Armadale because of the riff raff (his words not ours) that live there. Armadale has 2 malls and the transport links into Perth are good dont know about the schools sorry. Kelly works in the same place as Ali and we have moved to Cockburn city area nice mall and transport links into perth are good not too sure were you will be flying from but think we are about 30 mins away from the Airport. Cheers Keith
Thanks for the replies guys, it's all appreciated. SABRINA, it all depends on his qualifications. I'm a mechanic by trade so using that as my ticket to oz. I know companies are crying out for diesel mechanics, electricians and HGV drivers. I got my job offer through a recruiting company based in Newport Wales. Look up acorn recruitment ltd. the oz jobs are not listed on the website as being in oz so you need to dig a bit. Tip is to look at the higher salary level. Hope this helps.
There are some surrounding areas of Armadale that are out of this world, the views from the hills are fantastic, byford is lovely, Armadale itself can be hit and miss and I know lots of people who are really happy there. Shopping is great and as a shire, Armadale has spent a lot on re-development and they often have community festivals. We live in Leeming about 30 mins from the airport and close to the city and Freo
After hours and hours of looking at sites looks like we will be looking NOR possibly Ocean Reef area or surrounding suburbs.
We've decided on North to find somewhere to settle as well, looks like we can get more for our money there and boys are adamant we have a pool! Who am I to argue with that!! x
Thats the only thing our boys keep asking for, is a pool. You can't argue with it ca you
