Moving to Sydney

Hi Everyone,

I need help!!! We moved to Brisbane 17 months ago from the UK and now my husbands job is taking us to Sydney

I know nothing about the place and have never been there. So far all that I am finding out is negative (and bekieve me I am not a negative person at all)

We are on a 457 visa and I have been told I will have to pay $4500 per child for state schooling ( I have 3 kids and state schools are free in QLD) I was also told this was an up front payment.

My husband will be working in North Ryde and I am not sure where to kive that is not too far away from his work, I do not want to wait hours on him coming home seen as I will not know anyone for a while!!!

Rentals also look a bit more expensive? I will also have to give up my job here, which is not too bad as i decided I will probably only work part time instead of ful time which I do here (lol)

I need some positive advice as I need to get the happy me back!!!!!!!!!

sydney is a great place so dont worry about not enjoying it, and north ryde is pretty close to the east coast beaches and the lovely places to live along that coast.
unfortunately you will have to pay for the schools and it is an upfront payment, why dont you see if your husbands employer will sponsor you for PR as soon as you are eligible, then you wont have to pay the school fees, and indeed can claim the money back for that particular year, if you applied in 7 months time ,ie when you have been here 2 years, you should be able to claim the fees back

Thanks Sammy, I am starting to come round to it a little more now!! It is part of OH contract that the company support us with our PR so all is good in that way. We are looking at the area Cherrybrook, it seems to have a good High School. Do you suggest any others worth looking at that is not too far from North Ryde? What beaches are the best for families? Col
