Jobs are like buses . . .

you don't get offered one in an age and then two crap ones come along at once.

I had been desperate for a job after having run out of money a few months ago and living off my UK credit card.
I am a primary teacher and having been awakened to the scarcity of jobs I stared applying for non teaching jobs which sounded good and interesting . After a while of rejection letters I started applying for jobs which paid a living wage. Recently I applied for jobs which offered some paltry renumeration.
Yesterday I was offered a job selling cleaning equipment for $2800 a month which is full time and just about covers bills etc (with no money to pay back the credit card or savings for ticket back to Uk which is beginning to appeal quite a bit at the moment).
Today I was offered a job in telesales of holiday accommodation which pays $17.40 - $20 dollars an hr (commission based) but at start up of approx 15 hrs a week. I would need 40 hrs to make to same pay as the first job, but the hrs are likely to be eve and sat am so this would give me a chance to apply and interview for 'better' jobs.
Basically, both jobs are pretty chronic with the telesales job sounding marginally better than selling floor cleaners.
What should I do? I am having such a hard time deciding. There must be a simple way of deciding. It's so hard being here on my own with no sounding board or a bit of common sense reasoning except by email to family in the Uk. I wouldn't half mind a bit of advice here I can tell you.

Sounds like you are really going through it at the moment.

If I were you I would take the telesales and keep applying - you never know you might be really good at it and make a fortune in commission! I did telesales for a year when I left uni and earnt a pretty good living in UK with commission.

If you don't do so well you have plenty of spare time to apply for more jobs - good luck and hope it all works out - don't give up hope!!

What a Nightmare...why is there such a shortage of teachers yet people like you are crying out for a job.I have a friend who is a teacher...she wants to work part time as she has kids....she needs to go round schools begging for work and only gets the odd week here and there....was told she would never get a permanent contract unless she works in a school for 12 months

Take the job to pay the bills then keep applying....try the new banks in Northlakes...money might be better the hours will defo be better.

Goodluck.

A friend of mine applied for over 50 teachers jobs, and eventually gave in and started working at our vet clinic as a nurse, she was only with us a month and she got offered a great teaching job. Sometimes employers like to see that you have a job. Personally, I would accept the first job knowing that it is only temp until you get your perfect teaching job. Good luck and I hope a teaching job comes along soon.

Thanks for the advice. I'm leaning towards the job with no money. The liklihood of evening and Sat am hrs means I could volunteer at a couple of local schools for a morning or afternoon- foot in the door and familiarity with Aus system. Also, it is such a casual post that should I get a better job, I'd have no compuction about leaving immediately.
Anyway, I'll go on the unpaid training tomorrow and see how it goes. The training for the other job doesn't start till next Wed so I'd have bit more deciding time.
Give me another half an hour and will hve talked myself around to the selling job even though it probably involves lugging around equipment in my own car - but pays better
