wrong area????

Hi guys,
We have recently arrived and are living in Maroochydore on the sunshine coast. Its beautiful as I'm sure you will all agree. I came out first to look around and fell in love with it my husband arrived 2 weeks ago he's a bicklayer by trade but a small/med builder at home you know how it goes... Anyway he started work straight away but the rates aren't great.
We have 3 kids, 18,15 and 8 yrs so uni and schools are a large outlay. Also due to a business closure a few years ago we don't have the usual expat savings so our location to build a new life is very important from a financial aspect.
While we have laid out a lot of money already we all still in a position that we could relocate. I would really appreciate some honest and constructive advice right now its a bit catch 22 as its difficult to get straight answers on rates in areas that we don't live.
so a request for help to all our fellow adventurers, also if anyone else is new/old to our area and wanted to meet for a coffee that would be lovely,
lovin it but a little concerned,
regards,
judith, brendan, ross,rachel and ben.

They are paying from $750 to $850 per thou in Melbourne at the moment.
Day rate is between $250 to $300, Ive been offered $400 a day to look after a gang.

You will need a builders license to do any do any building in this country.

You need a license just to lay bricks in QLD, the builders license takes 6 months to complete and seeing as how hes been here 2 weeks I dont think hes done it?

Hi Bricky
Brendan here just read your post thanks for responding so quickly. What i have done is my application for my bricklaying contractors licence. I sucessfully got my trade papers recognised and did that management course that QLD require and lodged the app. yesterday it will take four to six weeks the good lady at master builders told me. My wife assumed i had the licence. No such luck.
Leave me know how you are doing in new job.
cheers,
brendan
