Selling houses?

Unless you've been on Mars or maybe the darker regions of Wales you will all be aware of the current housing market.

Has anyone actually managed to sell a house in the last few months?

I'm resigned to the fact that I'm stuck in the UK until my house gets sold.

hi, our house been on market since 1st may 08. had only 2 viewers and 2 offers, one of which we accepted last friday (19k drop from our asking price & 14k below what we wanted for it!) the day before tracey and i were discussing validating visa's by closing date in november and spending another xmas here.
you never know whats around the corner and it only takes 1 person to buy a house.

we've been on since may 08, 2 viewers, one second viewing, no sale.
Really unimpressed with the ea but hey ho, think their all the same!!

Our house is going through at the moment, fingers crossed, they booked the survey today. We had to take a big drop to sell it, plus plenty of tarting it up. I think if you want to sell and go then dropping the price may be the only way. Rent's are costing more than mortgages now as they are steadily going up. Maybe this will convince people to start buying again(if they can get a mortgage!).
I suppose it depends on how much equity you have in your house, that decides if you can take a price drop, but remember a validation trip for a family of four could cost you 10 grand.
We decided to cut and run so we could get on with our new life, as life shouldn't always be a business decision, and you only get one. Good luck.

Hi Tom (the pom) we're going to put ours on the market this week, talking to a client of mine who is using the same estate agent as we want to use, she told me that they are even laying staff off now cause its gone that quiet, and someone else told me today that they've heard another estate agent has closed down. All depressing stuff eh!!!

Hi Tom,

Nah we stuck ours on in mid April, 2 viewings in first 2 weeks and nada since then. Reckon it's going to get worse before it gets better - we are going to capitalise on the increased rent that people are paying as they postpone their search to buy - are you able to rent yours out? Otherwise you might be stuck here for another year or more. To be honest we still can't believe that we're having to rent it out, compared to what our dreams were 9 months ago in terms of taking a nice big pile of sterling and converting into lovely Aussie dollars - we're now basically going over skint and hoping for the best?!lol Although anything is better than staying over here, we'll be skint but at least we'll have a tan lol

Our house has been on the market over a month (sorry cant remember when I put it on now), but not one viewer !!

Anyway we have talked and talked about this and now have a plan 'b' which we have put into action. We have instructed our EA to put our house up saying we will 'Consider a Part-Exchange', then we can pay of the mortgage and hopefully rent out the part-ex. Not ideal but at least it gets us to where we want to be AND ifthat doesnt happen we have 'Plan C' which is :-

When we get the visa we will need to validate by the 1/12/08, therefore we will leave things until as close to this date as we can get, if no house is sold we will then book flights to validate that visa that we know we are going to get (oh i'm tempting fate now lol), go to Australia for 2/3 weeks and look for a rental, we will all (4 of us) come back then and then in January if house still not sold the kids and I will go to Australia whilst Daren will stay here until the house has sold or he wins the lottery LOL We dont think the wages in Australia will pay mortgage and rental but hopefully on a shoestring we should be able to do it this way round.

Hope I havent bored you all too much LOL Just giving other options x

We put ours on the market last Nov. Had an offer in Jan but they backed out a week later. Just had another offer (fri) and excepted, 15,000 less but im not counting my chickens just yet. The excitement I can handle but the dissapointment I cant.

Selling ours houses is just a slow as getting ours visa......well it feels that way to me boo hoo :( XX

This was the response I was expecting (and dreading).

I fear that I am going to be stuck here in the UK for at least another year or until the housing market gets better.
