Driving Licence

Will be moving to Sydney soon and wondered what the deal was with regards to a sriving licence. Have a full UK one so is that enough?

Cheers

You can get a NSW driving licence based on your UK driving licence. Details are here, I think you'll need to have an eye test in NSW (other states don't do this for exchanging licences) but that's pretty much it! If it's the same as VIC then you also keep your UK driving licence.

If you're on a permanent residency visa you can drive on your UK licence for up to 3 months, so you would need to have obtained a NSW licence by that time.

stay on the uk licence as long as you legally can as there is much less chance of getting done for speeding etc if youve no Oz licence.

Hi all
Here in WA, if you have held your driving licence from the UK for less than 2 years you are required to display 'p' plates on your car. I only passed my test in January so now have to have P plates on for the next 18 months or so. Also I am now (at the age of 40!) banned from driving between the hours of 12 midnight and 5 am under the new laws that come in force today! How embarrassing is that at my age-lol

On a temporary visa you can use your UK licence for as long as you're on a temporary visa! The 3 month rule only kicks in once you have a permanent visa.
