how do you prepare for the shippers?

Hi everyone,

Crown are coming on Tuesday to take all our personal effects to Adelaide, no furniture just kitchen stuff, DVD's, kids toys etc. What I'm wondering is, do you have to get stuff out of cupboards ready or do they just come in and do it for you?( they are packing the stuff for us). I'm especially thinking of the kids toys, they've got loads of tiny bits and pieces loose in their rooms, will they get packed individually or are we expected to put stuff into smaller boxes ready?

Cheers all,

Bec x

hi Becky,we had crown in last week and were told to make sure that what we were taking and what we were leaving were seperate so they just come in and pack eveything for you which sounds great in theory lol my 9yr old has a toy box full of junk she wants to take so i would just imagine they would stick it in a box the way it is, we're moving to Adelaide in August so we've got a while yet.
Good Luck
Val

they quoted us 2 and a 1/2 grand to take our things over kirsty, we are taking a motor bike tho' and a king size bed and big kitchen table and chairs and our 2 sofas , lots of tools as hubby is a joiner and just general kitchen stuff and nick-nacks.the bigger the item the higher the cost to take it.

Hi Val and Kirsty,

Thanks for the replies, Kirsty, we were quoted £780 for 20 'large boxes' ,not quite sure exactly how much they hold yet. On top of that is insurance which is about £150, but how much your insurance is depends on the value you place on your goods.

We are not taking any furniture, just personal stuff, hope that helps,

Hi Bec

when our removers came I just made one room a no go zone for them (stuff not taking) I packed the drawers of the wardrobes i was taking to the brim My daughters toys she put small items into one of those plastic storage boxes and the boys just put them into a packing box. We did pack the childrens Cd players in there original boxes but they unpacked them and bubble wrapped and put into there boxes so as the boys said dont think new item and charge you. Everything they just took out the cupboards /off walls themselves and wrapped and packed. I mads sure there was refreshments for the boys our where really good good luck

Thanks Becky, thats great. I think we will need around 10-15 boxes, so it should be abit cheaper for us. Have you got a website address for Crown please?

Thanks

Kirsty

Thanks for the advice everyone,

They came today and took all our stuff. Although we were quoted for 20 boxes, it actually was 51!! Was a bit of a shock when they'd filled 20 and there was still loads of stuff left over. We just agreed they could pack it all and we'll be invoiced for the extra. It's surprising how much stuff you don't think you can live without.

The 2 lads who came to pack were really pleasant, and were really careful with our stuff. Just hope it all makes it over to Oz in one piece!

Bec x
