Son recently diagnosed with Colitis...can we still make it to Oz?

Hello everyone,

My son has recently been diagnosed with Colitis and is currently on Predisolone. We are planning on moving to Australia in the next couple of years as im a Nurse and know that finding work shouldnt be a problem. I wanted to know how my sons condition will be regarded, are we likely to be refused a visa on medical grounds? Really any information would be appreciated at this confusing time
Thank you

Anilaloop, so sorry to hear about your son, a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in march of last year, she hasnt had a good time and has not responded to any of the drugs given to her including predisolone, she is having the op in june to remove her bowel and hopefully things will settle down for her then. i dont know anything about whether you'll encounter problems with your move but i just wanted to say i hope your son responds well to his treatment, and that someone can give you the advice you need.

there is a forum that is specifically for colitis and crohns maybe someone on there could answer your questions, not sure of the forum address yet just waiting for my friend to text me back, so ill let you know as soon as she texts me.

Nics x

Just found out the forum is crohns zone!

Hi anilaloop

Sorry to hear about your son and hope he responds well to treatment.

My brother was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 2/3 years before he emmigrated to Adelaide. Being an electrician he was the main visa applicant, but it didn't hold him back. He did though have to have several letters from the hospital with regards to his condition.

After arriving he found that he had been mis-diagnosed and had actually got crohns. He had his bowel removed and couldn't speak more highly about his treatment. He feels that emmigrating literally saved his life!!

Wish you well and good luck to your son.

Hi Aniloop

My husband (the main visa applicant) has got colitis also and we are due to have our medicals on 30th May. We are a bit nervous about it as I don't know how it is going to go but will post as soon as we know our results so keep a look out for it! However, the post by Kag above, is certainly encouraging!

Good luck to you all

Em xx

TheTaylors

Wishing you all the best with your medicals.

My brother just kept telling everyone that is was feeling better than we really was - maybe worth a try!!

Look forward to hearing how you got on. Good luck

Thanks Kag - I think that it probably what we will do as he is up and down a lot of the time!

Notice you are not too far from us - we are in Hornchurch and hoping to go to Adelaide too!

Thanks for your good wishes and we'll be keeping everything crossed for the meds!!
