we had to provide a letter from OH's employer, proof of ID (passport), proof of current address (temporary address will do), bank statement and I think that was about it.

Hi Shani,

Most rental agents have a points system and you have to provide documents worth so many points. A print out of our Aussie bank account ledger, my aussie drivers licence and UK passport secured our rental. I did bring 3 months of bank statements, utility bills and proof of mortgage payments to show why we didn't have any rental references (some real estate places ask for this too!) just in case but it wasn't needed. I think it's better to have too much rather than not enough though, just to be on the safe side.

Considering the demand for rental properties (especially in Sydney) we've always provided references as well. We still own our property in the UK so gave a reference from the management company back there to say that we owned the place, that it was in good condition and generally what good people we are!
Worth being prepared with some reference like that if you can get one.

Thanks for that. Would take forever to find all those bits in a crate once we get there so can now make sure I am prepared (if that is possible)
