Yes, if you can rent it and cover most of your costs I'd say go for it. Things may have changed in a year and you could look at selling then.

We've over capitalised doing up our old house in NZ and prices have plateaued if not dropped, so we're renting ours out. Research suggests that we could actually borrow enough to buy a house in Oz without selling ours, although we'd have to both have full time jobs to pay it off! Meanwhile, renting a house in Oz could have its good points. No renovating in the weekends, minimal gardening...

There are so many of us with a similar dilemna but I want the dream so much I am determined to work around it and not let it distress me.

Our solution is put the house up anyway and have in mind a minimum price we will accept. I want to go as a student for 3 years, get a bachelors degree and start my own business but if we can't sell the house at our minimum price that option is gone.

If we can't sell I will try and get a job on a 457 visa, go out myself, rent a place out there, rent our house out here and then Kimi will come over.

I feel positive about the dream and not stressed because I feel a have a viable solution. Obviously the 457 depends on me finding a job to get it but will worry about that if I need to later.

We have an offer and I really hope it goes through but if not there is always the other alternative.

So I would say work out all of your possibilities and don't give up on the dream just yet.

Good luck and hope that helps.

Cheers

Nigel and Kimi

Kag will become famous soon enough
Hi Millimoo

Our house has been on the market since November and the price has been reduced in that time. We know that we wont be able to afford the 'dream house' we were hoping for now, but anything will be better than living here!

Good luck to you and all those with a house to sell.

Sids Dad is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi Everyone who may be hung up in this housing mess. We also have our house up for sale (August 07) and in that time I have dropped the price by £20K and changed the agents. Since we have done this, things have got even worse and it's doom and gloom in the housing market and since we altered the price we have had NO interest at all. Our agent has been on the phone today to ask if we want to drop the price even further!!
We are now considering renting our house out and renting in Oz. Has anyone had any experience of doing the same? I would appreciate advice on the pros and cons of doing this as if it is too much hassle we will just have to bite the bullet and reduce again and to cut our cloth to suit.

We've had 2 people make offers, then pull out. Now we have a third offer for even lower.

Hopefully third time lucky, i've given up caring how much we get for it now. We talk about thousands here and thousands there like the're tenners. Money seems to of become a fantasy.

It might just be a beach hut for us when we get there, with air con of course!

Hiya, sorry to hear that, we had a valuation for £260 but the estate agent said as it's right on the stampduty we would not really get anything more that £250. We have decided that if it drops any more we may rent. We've worked hard to get the equity in our house and can't believe we picked this year! I hope that you can get around it? Bernie .

Hi Stokey
We actually live in Newcastle (Clayton) we have applied for a 176 visa on a state sponsorship to Victoria. We have submitted visa on-line on 26th March and we have had medicals done on Monday. Assume they are ok haven't heard anything from Doc. Our neighbour didn't even have chance to put his for sale board up his house was sold straight away think he used Heywoods, so i'm hoping ours will sell. Where are you from and where are you hoping to go.
