Wink District Nursing in Perth (With out the bike thanks!)
Hi ya Im a qualified nurse in uk at the moment and have applied for the 175 visa but seems to be taking ages and i am really fed up having to do the ILETS ENGLISH test again.

My background is Oncology/ palliative care (hospital based) and are now currently working in the district and realy enjoy this role. Do you know if they do district/community nursing in Perth.? Dont realy fancy working back in hospital again (nights and all that).

Not sure whether to go over to the sponsored route cause i may have to work some were not to my liking and if i dont like my job i would be stuck. Maybe i could consider a practice nurse position.

Oh decisions decisions is there any district nurses out there?????

Hi Yvonne

I am a district nurse here down south and i am awaiting my CO/Visa. We are going to Perth on a 176 State sponsored visa. I have been told i will have to work for a least one year so i have been looking at many web sites for jobs and it seems that District Nursing if different from here in the UK, however
have a look at the ANMC web site for job discriptions, also SEEK and Silver Chain web sites for jobs and try also Flex Health Services (Community Car Program) on persis@flexhealth.com.au

Hello Yvonne,

I am going down the sponsored route myself just because it's quicker, and I have been told the employer will help me apply for PR after approx 3 month....subject to appraisal of course!!

On the topic of oncology I know there is a palliative care unit in Murdoch, it is part of St John of God's hospital. They have a community outreach team....just thought it may be of interest to you.

Thanks Karen & Alison, I will look at St John of God hospital web site (I can probably find but do any of you know it?) Karen you said that District nursing may be different from in the UK, I'm curious, in what way?
Where about are you both at the mo with your applications?

I am waiting for my CO/Visa which ever comes first. House is up for sale but plan to rent out if visa comes, as fed up of waiting and i do not want to GIVE my home away by dropping the price!!!! (Thats another thread)

I plan to go to Perth, we are planning to rent and when our house does sell we will hopfully build our own.

When i looked into DN i noticed that the DN's are like they used to be here. They seem to do carers jobs ie :washing and dressing, not just clinical needs as we do now. This could be different in different states however. I am hoping to do pratice nursing when i arrive. I am really looking forward to working in the OZ health centres they are apprently beautfully designed, very clean and very friendly.
