Dark evenings

Hi

I have a question about the darker evenings. My OH and I hate winter - we can cope with the weather but hate the fact that we go to work and it's dark and we come home and it's dark. How early does it get dark in Melbourne and how do people find it?

Thanks in advance

Vicky

The shortest day

On June 21

Melbourne the sun rises at 7.35am and set at 5.08pm:
a nine hour and 33 minute day.

Yep, we noticed this in Brisbane too, we were even at our cousins and about 9:30pm she started clearing up and we guessed it was time for us to go back to our apartment LOL We went to Noosa for the day and thought we would have a nice evening meal there to, we did but there was hardly anyone else about!
I did wonder 'where is the atmosphere', but I suppose we will get used to it and enjoy the weekend at day-time!

Ali

Is it dark at that time all year round or do you get lighter nights at certain times of the year?

in WA its pitch black by 6.30pm but that's after the clocks went back last week. during the summer it didn't get dark until 8.30/9 pm, it was a shock to us when we got here but you get used to it and the mornings are light really early during the summer so you'll find you are up and out earlier than you would be back in the UK as it gorgeous outside and it gets too hot by 2/3pm to sit in the sun you have to get things done earlier in the day and then sit in the alfresco area after 2 and chill out until it cools down at 8pm

Don't bother with bloomin' Queensland- no daylight savings!!! Dark early all year round!!! We sit outside sometimes, having our evening meal, with the patio light on and the citronella candle burning. Very poor. Don't get up any earlier though to compensate!
