How long did house sales take?

Hi, we've just had an offer on the house and they seem really keen (yay). Just wondering roughly how long things have taken to go through for others because I need an idea of when to book the flights for. They are first time buyers coming straight from home, so it should literally be just as long as the banks and solicitors take.

Hi Cara
It should take no more than 6/8 weeks if people pull there fingers out. If it is taking longer you want to be asking whats going on. Remember its not sold until the moneys in your bank. We have a sale that should go through on Friday fingers crossed so that will be one down and one to go.

Best of luck

The oldgit

Congratulations on the house Cara.

Now starts the nightmare of completing.

It totally depends on who your buyers are getting their mortgage with at the minute there are massive backlogs with a lot of banks especially Abbey national and Bank of Scotland they are experiencing 6 week delays before even sending a surveyor out and thats just on basic paperwork checks.

Our buyers are going with the bank of Ulster and we are in a 2/3 week backlog.

Our buyers signed initial papers on 27th march and paperwork should be processed any day with surveyor they think coming out next week.

Then after surveyor filled out his report some banks are experiencing delays again after that.

I wouldnt bank on it being 6-8 weeks we have first time buyers with ours and told it could turn around in about 6 weeks we are nearly 3 weeks in since we sold but did have easter and no surveyor yet.

We are due to validate by may 16th its going to be close I reckon.

good luck

Hi,

I we sold our house to the first people tha looked around it! But having said that it took about 10 weeks to complete....in actual fact we completed on our house the day before we flew to Oz (talk about cutting it fine!!)

As someone has already said, its not completed until your money is in the bank.

Good Luck

Heather

Thanks for the responses everyone. We have now decided to wait until we complete before we book flights. We have until the end of August, so fingers crossed it will all go smoothly. Good luck to everyone else waiting for completion as well.
Cara

Just wanted to say how pleased I am that the house sale is moving along for you, Cara, after all the waiting you've done.

Good news.
