Hi Woody crew!

Not sure about Adelaide so can't be too specific but my sis in law in NSW had to have a bolt put into her car which was huge and then the car seat had to be fixed to that. I don't think the normal strap-in car seats are acceptable there or they are frowned upon. Not sure!!! There must be a manufacturer in Oz that could tell you?

Good luck! Oh what is your timeline? We also are waiting for a case officer!

A car seat in Australia must carry an australian kite mark ,if not and god forbid an accident occured your car insurers may be abit funny/awkward.I buy the car seats for clients were required and normally get them at Big W,K-Mart,Target etc prices vary from $55 upwards, hope this helps

UK car seats are absolutely not acceptable over here in Oz, which is a shame as the ones over here are complete crap and in my opinion not nearly as safe as the ones we left behind. We had a recaro in the UK as our daughter has special needs, and it had adjustable seat depth, it cost us £300 and we had to leave it behind. We have not been able to find one similar over here, totally gutted.
Our son had a britax in the UK, they have similar ones here for about $200 upwards, but as cal said you can get cheap seats, though the cheapest we found were $75, and are just polystyrine seats (like UK booster seats but with a moulded back)
You could chance bringing yours, sometimes wish we did, but Cal is right, if you got could or had an accident you would be in big trouble and your insurance would be invalid...that said UK safety standards are higher than the UK so your kids would prob be safer!!!!!

Oh yeah, and saying that, we did bring our booster seats from the UK (we bought cheap ones from Argos £10 each, as to have them in the UK hire car we got at the airport would have cost £25 each!) and used them here for a week or so until we got the new ones, we used them in the hire car from the airport to save money again on hire seats at $30 each!. Every penny/cent counts

Hi

Does anyone know which children have to use car seats? My kids are 4,6,8 & 10 They all have uk booster seats & the youngest is still in his Brittax. Is it Weight, Height or Age?. Do the Oz seats just fit into the car? as we are sticking our Toyota People Carrier in our Shipping Crate?

Thanks

Rachel

Alot of car seats have bolt in anchor points but you can get ones that just fit in.Im not sure how its worked out in relation to age/size etc as you do see lots of kids without anything,i dont think they are as a strict as the uk.My daughter is 4 and has a polysterene full seat type that fastens with the seatbelt ,my son who did have to have a booster in the uk(the new law) dosnt have anything other than his belt over here ,hope this helps a bit

Thanks Cal - I think there is a sort of AA / RAC motoring peeps in WA I might try & find their web page they would have the regs. My kids are really tall & the oldest are really uncomfortable in booster seats it would be great if they sdidnt need them - My 6 yr daughter is ok in hers & my youngest son diffinately needs all the strapping down you can get in the car!!!!

Take care

Rachel

Hi Sarah & Damo,
yeah thanks, so many people are unsure think this will have to be my project for the week!!!!! LOL
we are waiting on a case officer and according the e-mail we recieved back from aspc.processing@immi.gov.au
they are only up to the 9 may 07 at the moment, well the paper way- so if you sent all your paperwork off before sept. before it cahaned that is.

don't know if you know about this, but if you send a blank e-mail to the above address then you will see date of processing.

we have got medicals booked for this month, so hopefully all will be ready for case officer.
when did you put all your paperwork in, did u do it by paper or e-logged?are you planning to move to NSW?

good luck with it all, hope you get news soon

Hi we logged ours by paper - didn't even know there was another option at the time. If they're only up to May 07 that's terrible - we may as well all re-submit them by e-mail. Don't think this should make any difference as either way it's still an application......well who are we to understand what route they take!!!! Rant over!!!

Yes we're hoping to move to Northern NSW or South Queensland as we've got family there and having travelled the coast we did love that area. Never been to Adelaide. Will hopefully cover a bit more of Oz at some stage!!

Good luck with the car seat thing!!
Sarah
