Estate Agents

Hi everyone , Am really not happy with my estate agent ... as some of you know my house has been on the market for nearly a year now .... This is my second agent only had one viewing with them since dec 07 .I rang them today to see how things were , they said things were very slow and that houses in our area were starting to be repossesed due to the way things were ... I asked them for some more advice on how to sell my house ,The answer to that was we dont know , They asked me if i knew anyone that wanted to buy my house i could not believe my ears , I am paying them 1.8% to sell my house and they want me to do all the work ... So they were told very nicely by me that i am doubling up with another agent so they would have to pull them selfs together if thet want there 1.8%omg ......... Is anyone else having similar problems i am so mad ...karen

it is so frustrating isn't it? We have just changed our estate agents after 6 months. Our first agents sent loads of people around but no offers. When we asked for feedback it was mainly "they didn't want a bungalow" - Why the hell send thm to look at one then!! Fingers crossed our new agents can pull something out the bag.

Keep your chin up, whats meant to be will be (so I keep telling myself!!)

Hi Karen hope your well,

Boy do I know how you feel. We've been up for sale for over 2 years, I'm on my 4th agent and Elaine has now banned me from dealing with them.

We actually had the house sold in November to the Robbie Williams lookalike on the BBC Talent Show and the agent blew the deal by not ringing them with our acceptance of offer!!!!!.............. and Elaine goes mad at why I lose my temper with them!

I swear I am going to come back as an Estage Agent, they have to be the worst people to deal with in the world!! We rang up at the weekend to see were they are up to and got the same response as you, yet they couldn't tell us about the last 2 lots of viewers who both expressed an interest in the property. If I waited for things to happen in my job I wouldn't be in a job!

I've got 3 interviews ready to go to in OZ on a 457 but cannot do anything until we sell. Just dropped the price again to try and shift it, going to give it 4 weeks and boot there goes another agent.!!

Unfortunately as easy as it is you can not blame the slowest housing market in 20 years on the influence of Estate Agents! The banks have been lending money to anyone who asks for it and believe me even an aprentice McJob would get a £300,000 advance . The government too have far stronger tools to use to stuff the economy than some 20 year old, lazy salesman in an Estate Agents office in the back street of nowhere.
I have vendors who will not reduce their price will not have a for sale board up as they 'don't want to tell the neighbours' and will only blame anyone but themselves that no one likes theer 'dirty' badly decorated heap of pooh. Oh but is must be the agents that can't sell it! yeah right!
Reduce your price we are all sittiing on higher price than this time last year (I have reduced my own by £30,000 so far)
Bring in a second agent it will raise the pressure on both agents
Redecorate, de clutter and make over the garden
Do ALL (not one) of the above and you will double your chances but believe me the market is so bad that even that will offer no gaurantee!
And please remember we are not earning when we are not selling and I have just had my worse pay month for 10 years!

Hi there

Depending on where you live some councils will purchase houses off of people to increase their own property ownership to cope with increasing housing shortages. We were tempted with our last house but had an offer just in time. Trouble is though they do knock the price down a fair bit, and if they have used up their annual budget you have to wait until the new budget year.

Just a thought - May be worth a try though.

Hi Immy21,

I do know were your coming from as I too am in an industry that is directly affected by the housing market and the bottom line is that people started running out of money when interest rates started rising in August 2003 onwards.......... BUT in my experience and many other peoples experience many Estate Agents don't do themselves or their reputation any justice. Not saying that applies to them all but you hardly hear people jumping up and down about how 'good' their agent is and 'try these they were fantastic'.

As with everything in life there are good and bad companies in any industry and my experience of Estate Agents isn't the greatest. Of course they don't have a magic wand but they should have common courtesy in keeping people updated on a regular basis about what is going on and advising them on how to improve their chances of selling. That opinion is based on 4 estate agents or maybe I'm just unlucky at choosing them!

Stuart
