Smile Help please!

Me & my boyfriend have recently started talking about moving to Western Australia together to work but we have absolutley no idea where to begin! Everyone on here seems so positive & happy about the move they have made but the bit in between sounds so scary

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks so much
mellycat

hi doll,
welcome to poms in oz. everyone is lovely on here, just ask away, there is always someone on here that will give you advice or info if needed.we first started with our jobs, and if they were on the MODL list for oz,if our jobs were in demand in oz.then we contacted a migration agent, ones recommended on here, are go matilda, and the visa bureau.they offer you a free 15 minute consultation, that is enough time for you to tell them your circumstances, and for them to tell you your options. It is a mine field of information out there, depending on what visa you want to go on,if you have family out there ect.you are under no obligation to go with the migration agent, but picking their brains for free will not be a bad starting point.good luck and i hope this helps.

Hello mellycat

Welcome to Poms in Oz

One has to begin with the DIAC website, which is here:

Department of Immigration and Citizenship

Click on Visa & Immigration and have a good look round the site.

You haven't said enough about yourselves for any of us to be able to suggest anything specific for you to consider at this stage.

If you could please supply more of a blog for each of you, we can try to help further.

Best wishes

Gill

Thankyou for replying so quickly I now have some idea where to begin

My boyfriend is a track engineer on the London Underground - he's heard rumours from the other lads that people like him are wanted out in Australia as there is a shortage of workers but where i've looked so far I cannot see his job listed, as for me I am a legal cashier in a solicitors in London but I don't thnk there's a great demand for me!

We are planning to go to the Expo in London next month is it worth the trip?

thanks again for all your help I really appretiate it

Hi mellycat

I'd suggest telling Google to find Google Australia.

Once in Google Australia, tell it to confine its searches to Australian webpages only.

It understands WA, which saves typing Western Australia.

Use every keyword combination you can think of to find either the rail operators or the civil engineering companies who instal and look after the tracks, I suggest.

Here's one:

MVM RAIL Pty Ltd

WA has been found to be stuffed with valuable underground minerals, hence there is a huge iron ore mine and several other mines extracting different things. They all use railways to transport the stuff they have dug up to the coast etc.

You might find that most of the tracks in WA may not be used for passengers.

If you are both under 31 and have no dependent children, one option might be to get yourselves Working Holiday Maker Visas, go out to Oz (unlimited work rights on WHmVs) scout around and take it from there?

Best wishes

Gill
