Unhappy Naughty boy!!!

Yet another question for you all - thought the worrying had stopped for a while after getting the all clear on the medicals but

got police checks back today (only sent them off on Monday aft and got them today Friday morn!!! - we used the 10 day £35 ones) and an offence Dave committed 18 years ago has shown up which we never thought of to declare on the visa because just didn't think about it and if we had we'd have thought it wouldn't show up after 10 years.................... are we done for????? He's been squeaky clean since. He didn't go to jail or anything it was classed as attempted burglary although he wasn't nicking or ought! just throwing a brick through the window on a peed up night out as a youngster!!! and classed as a conditional discharge for 12 months and £48 fine.

We've read loads of posts asking the same question and people saying as long as you declare it but seeing as we didn't do that is there anything we can do or is that it job done ?

Any advice would be great please because going mad again now

Donna x

he's been a good boy for 18 years(or got alot better at not getting caught)
i don't know but would have thought he will be ok i mean 18 years ago is a long way back to remember such a small offence
hope it doesn't affect you

Hey guys...dont worry too much..Paul isnt so squeaky clean either...However we did declare it and it did happen only 7 years ago...We didnt however declare a speeding ticket that showed up on his police check from 1995...I think you should only worry if time has been served, or drugs, arms, fraud etc...But even then it depends on the severity of the crime..
Dont worry hun, lots of us have done things as kids which we would rather forget about :)

I'm so glad to read these posts!!

I've been worrying since our visa appications went off. About 10 years ago I tried to go to America (I had a job lined up as a nanny and went on a year's open ticket), well I say 'tried' because they didn't even let me in. I was told that because I didn't arrange my visa in advance they wouldn't be letting me in - I was treated like a criminal, it was awful!

Anyway, I got sent back on the same plane that took me there. So when it came to the visa form question about being asked to leave a country we said 'no', I figure that as I didn't get in, I wasn't really asked to leave. If I try to go to the U.S now I need to arrange a visa in advance (although I have no desire to go there).

But now, I'm worried that I should have written about this on the oz visa application form. It was sent a week ago so I've got 5-7 weeks wait and it's going to be a long one.

Any thoughts? Dead nervous!

When you send off the police checks perhaps you could add a letter stating that you thought convictions were spent after 10 years and therefore hadn't put it on your form. The evidence shows hubby hasn't be in trouble since and is of good character. I'm sure that would be ok and don't worry.

A word of warning though about police checks for the purpose of migration they seem to give an entire criminal history, irrespective of how long ago it was.

Smile Thank you

Thanks for all your advice guys I feel much better about it now - yesterday it felt as if it would be all over - today feel more optimistic but will still have fingers and toes crossed that this won't affect the visa.

Going to take your advice Ali and tell them we thought it woudn't show up after 10 years and be honest.

No Brammies he has been a good boy since then (met me and I reformed him!!) no he wasn't really a bad lad just young and stupid.

That's what I said Jo there's not many people who have a squeaky clean past (well except me of course but I was a GUUUUUUURD girl!!! or maybe just lucky not to be caught???)

Good luck Jenki I hope you get your answer soon and I'm sure it'll all work out.

police check well before you will need it

can you apply for a police check well before you will need it befor you fill in the forms asking about your past so you know when the time comes you will apply for them again knowing what will or not be on them.

I've read on here recently that the new police checks are now valid for 1 year like the old style so if your visa comes through before they run out then you can apply for them earlier to check what's on - but as we have found out it's best to be honest and declare everything on the visa as your whole criminal history shows up no matter how long ago it was.
A lot of people choose to pre load their visas so get meds and police checks done earlier then requested to speed things up with the visa so it's up to you. Search under police checks and you'll see there are loads of people asking similar questions on here.

Sorry not sure if I've answered your question or not really there???

People do forget things over the years, reading some of the posts on here so is there anything stopping you from sending a police check form in well before you get to a visa stage and then paying again for another check even before the last check is is out of date.
