Smile Wanting to Move to Oz

Hello Everyone.

My Name is Claire and currently living in England, East Anglia. Me & My Fiancé are thinking of moving over to Australia. Gary is a qualified electrician, where i am just a administrator. We are both 24yrs old.
Gary is 100% sure that he wants us to move, but of course i have my worries of being to so far from "home" and away from family. I just would like to know how everyone else copes with this?
I am an easy person to get on with and im sure i will make new friends, just its such a big step to make....
What's the first thing we both need to do??

Hope you can give some advise.

Claire :-)

Hi and welcome to PIO.
Can understand your reservations about the move, im sure everyone goes through the same thought process but you only live once and you are both young enough to make the move and make a huge success of it, im sure.
Check out Department of Immigration and Citizenship as your starting point - electricians are on the demand list, so providing you can fit the criteria needed (think its VETASSES that assess his skills, someone correct me if im wrong), you should have no problems.
You could always speak to any agent - they give you a free consultation over the phone - go matilda and visa bureau seem to come highly recommended, so give them a ring.

Good luck and keep asking the questions - theres always someone here to help!!

Hiya Claire

Just wanted to say that I understand how you are feeling at the moment. We are at the first stages of thinking about moving, are going to an expo in April hopefully. Where abouts in Oz do you want to go? We fancy Perth, we travelled to Oz, drove all the way around it & down the middle to Ayres rock a few years ago and spent a year there. We loved it, but to live really liked Perth.

My oh would go tomorrow but I am concerned about leaving family behind, especially as we now have 2 boys of our own but then they are the reason now why we are thinking of going to give them a good outdoor lifestyle.

Its a minefield isn't it!! If you want to keep in touch then please do so, interested to hear how you get on. btw we are both 34.

Lisa

Hi Claire
Welcome to pomsinoz - theres always some helpful person on here who can help,
Just a suggestion but have you thought about getting a working holiday visa for a year here in oz and seeing how you go - before commiting yourselves to oz 100%
often the working visas are thought of peeps backpacking all over oz but we have known of some that have worked in offices shops etc in one place for the whole of the year and rented a small aprtment.
Maybe the way to go first .............
where are you in east anglia and where in oz do you like the idea of
best wishes

We are also going home but your only young, what have you got to lose. Why not get a 2 year work visa that'll cost you next to nothing and you have great fun what ever you decide.

Another option is to consider taking a career break - ask your company if they do them - gives you some security of a job to return back to if you don't like it.
