any advice appreciated

Hi, my first post, found this great site about a week ago and it seems really freindly and people are offering great advice.

Me and hubby have dreamed about moving to Oz for long enough and now it is finally time to set the wheels in motion so have called a migration expert today only to find out that our jobs dont fit any of the skilled list that I have read over and over trying to make something fit our occupations!

He is a prison officer and has been for 12 years, I work part time in a call centre in sales and have been there for about 7yrs now. I have been a team leader there and full time until 1yr ago when i had my daughter.

Anyway the best option open to us is to find a sponsor hopefully for my hubby and then i find something when we get there, has anyone got any advice on popular jobs that offer sponsorship??

He would be willing to try most things but is abit concerned that if you get sponsored ou have to stay in that job for 2yrs, is that right???

Any advice would be great.................... cheers Carol

Hi Carol,

Have a look on SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site you will get an idea and feel for the jobs available. We are here on a sponsorshop visa and in your situation you will be tied to the employer for 2 years, you will also need them to sponsor you to get residency so basically you have to make the commitment to them. This type of visa is good if you have no other avenue. Be aware of things like school fees in NSW and lack of any kind of centrelink assistance (like family allowance) also. If you do a site search on 457 visa you will find lots and lots of info on here about it. For us it was our only way in, we havent looked back be money is very tight.

Good Luck

Em x

My OH is being sponsored on a 4-5-7 visa and he is supposed to stay with his employer for the full four years that our visa runs for. However, we can apply for a permanent visa after 2 years and then he will be able to change jobs if he wants to. The only way he could change jobs now is to find another sponsor as if he left his current job he would have 28 days to either find a sponsor or return to the UK. We have a local Prison here in Bunbury and I know that they are always looking for staff so maybe worth approaching them to see if they would sponsor him as its easier to get a visa if your job is classed as being in a region (Bunbury is 2 hours south of Perth, WA and is definately classed as a region). The population is 50,000 and the town has everything you need and life is extremely laid back down here in the South West. Bunbury is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia and is in the wine region (Margaret River is next door) and has both countryside and beaches (five minutes drive to a beach in any direction). Good luck with your pursuit for a job, we've been here 4 months and absolutely love it and know its the best things we've ever done.

as the wait seems forever but you do get it in the end, in some ways it's a good thing

as it makes you more determind to go but also if you have doubts gives you that time to

think.

we have only this week got our visa my addvice is get as much info off here as you can

they are a wonderful bunch so when you feel low they help pick u up

good luck will everything

Can you not contact the prisons direct and see if they are willing to offer sponsership? your other option may be to come out for a few week and try and secure a sponser by walking into places and selling yourselves,,theres plenty of work about ,its just finding a sponser,,good luck

hi carol,
my wife and i started the process two weeks ago..we do not have the qualifying skills, however the agency we approached said because my wife has seven years customer service experience with nvq qualifications they would try to find us a sponsor.
We are fortunate to have family already living in oz so that is another option...however a job sponsor seems to be the one the agency are suggestioning.
We should hear back this week...we will keep you informed of any process..
good luck.. davey

Hi there dont mean to hijack your thread but im wondering aboout the sponsor route too. I have a couple of q's :

1. What if u get there and your sponsor has changed their mind and found someone else (unlikely i know but still scary)

2. What if u get fired? Or fall ill and u have sold up in the UK yadda yadda?

3. And i know u dont qualify for medicare and schooling - so how much would this cost for a 3 person family?

As I have a little one i want to go there with no uncertainties other than 'will we settle?' So is it worth the risk? Any advice would be great

Hi, I'm Prison Officer and am currently trying to do the same as you, if you click on this link your luck is in!, WA are looking to sponsor Prison Officer's, you might have to rough it for a couple of years in the outback but I think it'll be well worth it in the end.

International Recruitment

Can I also just add I've already emailed all corrections throughout oz private and public, there answers has always been the same, there all very interested in recruitnig UK officers however due to current immigration regulations they cannot offer you employment, they all do say if you mange to get to Oz to get in touch with them for a job!
If i get anymore info will post it on here.

Hope this helps and good luck!
See you in Oz!
