Hi, were hopefully off to Perth and wondered how much cash we should take, we reckon after the house sale and personnal savings we should have nearly £25k, is this a realistic amount to go to the other side of the world with, bearing in mind we have to rent and find a job and get the kids into an infant school get a car and survive....
Just in my opinion, £25k is going to be fine, that's going to be easily enought to support you all for over 6 months and if you can't get work etc in that time there'd have to be something majorly wrong.
hi everyone, when we go to oz,with the sale of the house, well have £70,000 clear profit,we are using that to help support ourselves, but will keep it as a nest egg, to put down a deposit on a house when we eventually settle.but if the house does not sell,we will have to go with the beggin bowl, cause we will be screwed.only have 10,000 savings. Will have to sell my body!!!!!!!!!not that anyone would want it,after two kids.LOL.but at least my husband loves me.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi ,just had to say ,you made me laugh out loud!!!Probably because I am also the mother of 2 and know what that does to your body!!!We are also in the same situation, all our cash is tied up in our property and with our house still unsold, but it has only been on for 3 weeks, can't do too much.
Think it is really hard to know from others how much is enough as everyones spending is different. From what I understand ,rent is cheaper for more than in uk,shopping is about the same, cars are more expensive ,but petrol cheaper, dentistry is horendous ,but the general enjoyment of the lifestyle is hugely better!will watch your responses with interest as it is very difficult to compare the cost of living as most of the websites are american.x
we wont have a lot but its a new start and have to start again but we have that choice a lot dont so will still feel luckly when we get there hopefully

We have got nothing to take, no house to sell, no savings, just whatever we can scrape together from selling our cars before we go and credit cards. We believe in the 'where theres a will theres a way' philosophy, but it is scary! I always laugh when I read these posts, as we wouldn't be worried at all with 5000 pounds to spend, let alone 10000 or 25000!
We have been in NZ for three years and managed so far, both my husband and I work hard and do OK and have no doubt that we can do the same in Australia. It will be tough going trying to get established again, but its definitely doable. And you can only spend what you've got!
