Question Education

Can anyone help, we are about to put in our papers, our eldest in doing A levels but wants to quit and take up an Electrician Apprenticeship but have been advised that he shouldnt do so until we have lodged as he wont be able to go on our visa as he wont be dependent on us, so advised to get apprenticeship when we get to Aus?, also younger son will be doing a levels, whats the equivelant in Aus, any advice would be a help.
thanks

theirs a post about this allready called Daughters GCSE's, im 17 and started my A levels and found that topic usefull.

as for the apprenticeship, they have technical colleges over here called TAFEs, at these places u can study a course on one particular subject, for example electrician, but it is also possible to get an apprentiship.

Hi Jane

Your eldest son will have to remain dependent on you even after the 457 visa is lodged as when you go to get PR he will still have to qualify as a dependent to be on your PR visa. This has happened to my 17 year old & at present he is working in a fast food place part time until we get PR. Then he is going to college here but only when we get PR. I feel really quilty about this as he passed all 8 highers with flying colours in the UK but his life is on hold for a year but mind you considering he didnt want to come or stay in Oz but has now settled its not that bad. Hope this helps.

Janette
