The costs involved all depend on what breed of dogs you have. It all depends on the size.
As an idea it's costing us about £2700 to fly a GSD. it worked out a little cheaper as we did all the paperwork needed, but your shippers can always do that for(at an extra cost)
On top of that you have vet fees for blood tests, worming treatment and flea and tick treatment.
Also you need to add on your quarantine expenses.
Our shippers gave us 2 different prices, one for them to do everything, one for if we did the bulk of the work.
We used AirpetUK. mainly because they are just down the road from us, but can highly recommend them.
Oh and you can't book your dog onto a flight. They will only accept them if done through an agent.
Obviously it isn't cheap to take your dogs, and there isn't many shortcuts to make it cheaper for yourselves either.
It might be a good idea for you to phone around a couple of agents and get quotes from them, but tbh I don't think the prices vary huge amounts.
There are no special vaccinations they need. Just make sure if they need thier boosters before they fly, that your vet leaves out the Lepto jab.
I know it is a tough decision for some people whether to take their dogs or not. We had those decisions also (mainly for health and age reasons for my dog,) but I know we made the right decision to take him, regardless of the expense.
Many thanks for your reply ! We have 2 Daschunds which we'll be taking with us. Its going to be expensive, but worth it.
Thanks for the recomendation too !

Hi
Hqave you sussed your accomodation a lot of rentals don`t have pets and if they do they stress that they stay outside, we have a border collie and are in a dilemma whether to take him
Yes I'm aware that our rental options will be more limited because we have the dog.
However there are still places available that allow pets.
We have secured temporary accommodation for when we arrive, and basically as he flys out after us we have approx 6 weeks to try and find somwhere that is happy to take him.
Not going to be easy, but I'm sure doable. My saying for the week is "there are no problems, only solutions"

Hi Debs
Pm Mrs Braveheart. They took their GSD to Oz last year and it all worked out perfectly.
We're fortunate that we have family already settled in the area we are moving too, which would only be to happy to have the hounds for us !
Thanks for the advice though !

Hi Rick
Wonderful dogs, dachshunds. We had two when I was a child. We lived in Malaysia and the postman used to peddle furiously up the drive on his bike, hurl the post at the front door and disappear coasting the bike with his feet on the cross bar because one of the dogs didn't like him and nipped his ankles on every possible occasion, then chased the poor man back down the drive.
The other one was a Bone Burier. God knows why he didn't like fresh bones but he didn't. He used to bury them in the garden and then forget where they were. A week later, there was the dog mooching round the garden, nose down, tripping over his ears looking for the bone....
Hearts like lions though, both of them. SUPER dogs.
We brought our Boxer across to Melbourne, used Airpets and reckon the total cost was around £3000.
So far as renting with pets is concerned it was a major worry for us before we got here but as it turned out many of the letting agents said it wasn't a huge issue(and especially if you say you are prepared to put up a Dog Bond if necessary) The house that we actually ended up renting actually specifically noted on the agents particulars that pets were welcome and we didn't pay any additional dog bond.
Hi, We brought our cat and used a company called Pets on the move because they had a local franchise. Pets On The Move and they were excellent. They collected Becky from our home and took her to the airport.
One word of warning - the quarantine station at Byford isn't particularly large (compared to others) and gets booked up very early. When we first made enquiries in August 06 the first available date was for mid december - so plan ahead and book early. The staff were great and you can visit your animal whilst it's in quarentine.
We had to pay a pet bond on our initial 3 month rental which was returned to us afterwards.
