Cost to go?

I know everyone's circumstance's are different, but what would be the rough cost to actually get out there for a family of 3? I dont plan to use an agent as of yet and would require TRA. What I mean is application costs, flights, insurance etc. I have a figure to take over to see us through maybe a year or so if things are tight to start and to maybe buy a car, but how much to get the process done? Any help/idea's would be great thanks. p.s We will not be shipping anything out either

It is possible to arrive in Australia with only a few hundred dollars but if you do that you will find it a strugle.

This question has been asked before check this thread.

Hi, it has cost us just shy of £10,000 altogether, roughly broken down as follows:
£850 - TRA assesment through agent inc fee
£800 Visa assesment fee
£1500 Agent fee for Visa application
£500 med for 4
£100 x-rays for 2
£2,600 Removals (half a 20ft container inc insurance)
£2,000 flights (2a 2c)
£500 car hire (1 week uk, 2 weeks Oz)
£140 Hotel 2 nights Brissy
£360 holiday accomodation in Caloundra for 2 weeks while we check out the area
£50 for copies of our medical records to take with us (Surgery's can charge upto £50 per person)
£94 Kinsure insurance (will fly us home in emergency)
Also have not purchased holiday insurance yet to cover our luggage until we get a house!

We had budgeted to save approx £12,000 thinking it would cost us about £6-7,000 to get there (how niave were we!) leaving us about £5,000 to get us started over there. Luckily hubby got a pay rise so we were able to pay the above and stll save about £20,000 we also managed to sell our house ourselfs (no agent fees) for £25,000 above valuation!

Altogether we are taking about £170,000, so are in an excellent position (kind of makes up for 8 people living in a 3 bed house - my mums - for 3 months!)

Obviously go through this and see what you may take out (agent fees, removals etc) Hope this helps

Lisa

Hi
We have just had our application accepted, got the ok on Christmas Eve! We did all the application work ourselves including TRA and saved ourselves a fair amount in not having to pay an agent. My one big tip would be to ring around 4 to 5 different doctors when going for your medicals as the price does vary, we saved approx £100 each by shopping around. Just in the process of getting packers in to quote.

Don't forget though that if you don't ship anything - you'll have to buy everything here, I think mrs Braveheart said she managed to furnish for about $12,000 (could have been a bit more)
