Is this salary going to be enough?

Hi everyone!

Just a quick query. My husband is offered a salary of $62k, will that be enough for a family of 4 to emigrate to Perth for? Would we manage renting a 4 bed in the Rockingham area? And then possibly buying (although I hopefully would have a job by then).

What would he likely be coming out with a month after deductions?

Thanks for any help.

HI BELLA .... AVERAGE COST OF RENTING IN ROCKINGHAM IS $350/week .... THEN THE AVERAGE WEEKLY FOOD BILL FOR FOUR WOULD BE $200 ..... THEN YOU NEED TO ADD ON ELECTRIC /GAS/WATER /PETROL ETC . $62K PER YEAR WOULD WORK OUT AT JUST OVER $1000/WEEK . YOU COULD MANAGE IN THE SHORT TERM ... IF YOU WERE THEN PLANNING TO GET PART TIME WORK AS WELL

If its $62K base salary then it is above national average (approx $57K), if its package (ie base plus benefits, super etc) then its close to average.

Dave53 is an unknown quantity at this point
In the short term you will possibly manage , however $62K / annum although slightly above the average as a sole income will make sure that you have to watch the pennies very closely . At a guess I would say he would probably clear about $1700- $1900 / fortnight . You'll need to do your maths though ..

Hi Bella

What sort of Visa? If it is a permanent visa then you will likely receive a number of government benefits like family tax benefit and income supplements and rent assistance. These benefits will allow you to live fine unless you need to borrow money for cars or furniture.

If you were to come on a 457 visa or any other temporary visa you will receive no assistance and would probably find things very tight financially.

But it's not always about money is it? going to the beach or having a picnic in the bush or a walk in the sun doesn't cost much but contributes significantly to an enjoyable lifestyle. Only you will know how important the material things are to you. What sort of lifestyle are you seeking? $62K won't offer you many alternatives though.

What sort of lifestyle do you want? BullcreekBobs right. Its not about the money, its about quality of life. You might have a smaller house but you see each other more...........you might have 1 car instead of 2 but the weathers great and u walk everywhere.

Depends what you are looking for in life? Quality or quantity! (He He - ladies, there lies another debate!)

Absolutely not! Quality here too. We spend so much more time together as a couple now than we ever did in the UK. Mum will vouch for that! When OH working I used to go eat at Mums! Funny, I always used to get there as Dad lit the BBQ.......................
