Advice on taking our cat with us to Sydney

Hi there,
I am new to this website.

My husband and I have applied for our visas (175) – they got lodged end of November through our agent. We are just waiting to have our medicals done – think we will do that next month.
We are having our UK police clearance checks done tomorrow and we are also doing our South African police checks (as we are originally from SA) - hopefully that wont take toooo long !

I would like to find out about taking our pet cat “Coco” with us to Sydney, and just wanted to find out what is the best way of doing this?

I have contacted a few pet travel agents and they all charge around £1,200 which includes applying for his permit, his flight over to Sydney, his carrier box, checks etc… but not including the agent pick up in Oz and the quarantine costs obviously.

Has anyone booked their own flights for their pets and done their own paperwork applications i.e. applying for his permit etc.. and not used an agent?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

And… I am sure to have loads of more questions soon……….

Thanks very much.

Lau

Hi, No we used pets on the move for our then 15 year old cat Becky. She's 16 now and has been fine here, she has her favourite shady spots. We're so glad we brought her, it really did make the family complete and I'm sure helped the kids settle.

We paid about £1,300 from Lancashire - which included collection from my house, them taking her to the vet for flight clearance and them taking her to Mancester airport. To be honest it was peace of mind someone else doing all the stuff, we had so much stuff on our plate organising everything else I'd have probably missed something important

Hi there Ali, thanks for your reply. Yes I think you are right in regards to someone else taking the pressure off things and ensuring things run smoothly. I am pretty sure we will be taking this route also.
