Shipping quote £4,922

Just been given a quote for a 20ft container to Oz with full insurance and tax. The bottom line figure is £4,922. Its full pack and door to door service. Does this sound a good quote or not. Insurance bumps the price up. Dont know if its good or bad as its the first one. Anyone got any advice.

HI

That does sound a bit steep! who is it with? whats you insurance total? we have been getting quotes the cheapest so far for a 20ft door to door is from whites @ £3495 excluding insurance, we estimate that to be about £600 this also includes 8 weeks uk storage

hi we used anglo pacific, when the estimator came to the house to look around he give us a quote of £3400 for a 20 ft container, we got another company to come and give us another quote which we wernt keen on, phoned anglo back up got the price down with a bit of haggling to just over £3ooo, the insurance is a percentage of what you think you goods are worth so could be from £100 to£1000,we were really impressed with them they come and do everything for you , give you advice on what and what u cant take.

Has anyone got a quote from Simpsons Ltd

If you want to pm me I can give you full details - phone number - web site
My Daughter used them and they were excellent and I have spoken to the guy on the phone and will also be using them. We wont be taking any furniture - just personal items but quote was good.

I emailed them to get a quote and got a phone call back immediately followed by an email quote which they guy said I would receive within ten mins and I did plus he said he would send written quote and brochure out that day and sure enough I received it the next morning.

Almost as good a service I give from our web site

Caz

Thumbs up Go through an Insurance Broker

Hi Red Aussies, Sorry to hear about the quote you have there. Sounds high I think. But as you say it’s the Insurance that’s a big rip off. Most of the move companies are not content with the money they are making off your move, they also want a slice of the Insurance pie, by loading the percentage charged of the value of your shipment.

The insurance is a real con, and we were lucky to find this out before we went ahead with our move. Firstly don’t listen to the people at the moving company on everything they tell you. Get all your figures worked out off the moving company they have to provide you with that such as the exact size and capacity of your shipment.

If you then contact any local insurance broker who do Marine Insurance they will give you a much better deal than anyone else. The good old fashioned local broker. Now not all brokers bother with Marine Insurance but they can refer you. Luckily for me I have a friend who works for a car insurance broker in Liverpool and she put me on to a specialist firm in Liverpool called Lettons. Their website is www.lettonpercival.co.uk or call them on 0151-236-4568.

They can deal with your Insurance for you and save you a small fortune. (rule of thumb, half the price of the quote you get off the movers) The cover all goes through Lloyds of London, its top draw and covers and includes everything that the top quote you get off the relocaters say are EXTRAS. Really worth a look at. Hope this helps anyone interested. Ah Liverpool, I'll miss you soooo much.
TA RA for now,
EMMY

We used John Masons (who were excellent and worked their socks off), and our whole bill was £3,800 including the insurance. Very professional service - you'rs does sound a bit on the high side to me.

Before you all go for the cheapset quote ,remember this is your life possesions your moving.I used crown who arent the cheapest but are one of the best,i have had first hand dealings with quite a few shipments and some companys are horrendous, especially this end when its a sub contractor,,be careful ,cheap isnt always the best.

Removal Quotes

Hi everyone,

Just joined this site....and finding it very useful to share info etc....

I'm in the process of relocating to Perth. Plan to fly out by the end of Jan. My partner (an Ozzie) moved back there quite a while ago and is working already and my cat arrived there yesterday!

I'm left behind to arrange all the packing and shipping! Allied Pickfords came today - apparently I have enough household stuff to fill a 20ft container and I am also taking a car (already have the import permit etc..arranged) Pickfords suggest I take it all together in a 40ft container....so will see what quotes they come up with this evening...

I have already rec'd quotes from PSS International....They quote £3335 door to door for a 20ft Reefer Container and £1653 for the car in its own separate 20ft container. Have been advised by a number of different people not to use RORO for the car which would be cheaper. KarmanShipping co. on the internet quote around £1300 for the car separately + £120 for an agent to manage the Oz side....(Note: The car import duty would be paid separately to all quotes and is based on car valuation....) Despite the costs and hassle involved, def want to take the car though, it is a nice little soft top sports car with limited mileage for its age and in excellent condition..it will be great for Perth.

Also just for your info. got my partner to look at the prices for certain stuff in Perth. If you want a decent front loading Washing Machine they are really expensive over there and not great quality...bought a new Zanussi on sale here for £340 delivered yesterday, saving over £800 by buying it here....taking a risk on warranties etc...but def worth it....when I used our existing top loader when I was visiting out there (which seems to be the most common in Oz) it ruined some of my clothes...

Has anyone else shipped their car out recently in a combined shipment with Allied Pickfords or using another company? Any recommendations etc...would be most appreciated. Thanks! And good luck to the rest of you with your moves!
Cheers,
Angela
