How expensive can a wee moggie be?

Hi Folks,
Just had a quote back from a firm with a price for emigrating our beloved and much pampered moggie. I CANNOT believe that it could cost nearly £1000 to get her there and that's without the quaratine costs over in Melbourne (I mean she doesn't even get a seat or a 3 course on the flight!).

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for making it cheaper??? We can't contempalte leaving her here, but by the same token it is hard to justify 5% of your total emigration budget on a lovable ball of fluff.

Help!

Ile be watching your thread as have 2 lovable balls of fluff to transport.

Trying at the moment to send of for different quotes as also not included in the quotes is transporting them from Sydney onto Brisbane which is more money....

Keep looking at their little faces and cant bare to leave them here so they have to come but need to source the right cost for us!

IV thought long and hard about taking my lovely cocker spaniel cant bear the thought of leaving him behind cost around 2.000 to take him but im afraid that if i took him all that way just because im selfish and cant bear the pain of leaving him and he got bit by a spider because he is such a play full thing and the worst happened i would be more upset and blame my self for taking him

I am bringing my 2 cavalier king charles spaniels over and apparently spider bites do not harm dogs. This was a worry of mine also but it is nothing to worry about.
I am using golden arrow to ship my boys over and it is costing an arm and a leg but i could not even think of rehoming them when the life out here for them is so fantastic, also if i ever re homed them for them to be neglected in anyway or broken apart i would never forgive myself. so mine are coming with me as i would always wonder about them otherwise and i would never forgive myself.

Also i have been here for 3 weeks and they are still in the UK with my parents getting jabs ect and waiting for their flights and to be honest i have missed them so so much.
It is hard being here and you do get home sick so a cuddle off your beloved pet will be so comforting when they get to be with you.
I just wish mine would get here sooner as i do miss them so so much

Thanks all. It's good to know we're not the only ones feeling this. Are all your quotes complete, or are they for portions of the move? We were wondering if you can do any of the paper work yourselves to cut down on thir fees ('cos obviously not got enough paper work to do at the mo!)
Have any of you guys looked into this???

Our vet told us that you can do it all yourself and take them to the airport yourself etc... But had so much going on with the Visa that havent looked in to it yet.

Lots of people on here have said how happy their pets are in Oz and havent heard any tragic stories yet, apart from the poor pets that dont quite make the journey but that is very rare, or so I'm told. I know my pets couldnt be without me and I too would worry that someone is not caring for them enough x

We paid £1,300 in January last year for our cat Becky to travel to Aus, so if it's less than £1,000 I'd say it's cheap. We used Pets on the Move who had a local franchise, they picked Becky up, did all the paper work, got her clearance to fly certificate etc., and took her to the airport for us. Becky celebrated her first year in Aus yesterday - we have to wait until Monday to celebrate our arrival.

Yes my 2 king charles love to chase butterfly's, moths, spiders, well anything that moves to be honest so they will become my little guard dogs for huntsman spiders!!
I i think it must go on the size of your pet then as for my 2 cavaliers i have been quoted £2250 with golden arrow but that doesnt include the quarenteen fee when getting to melbourne or any of the jabs either, which i guess could cost a fair bit.

I think Morris would run from a Huntsman.(hes a sheep in wolves clothing) My quotes were for travel only. Im not a rich man but i will have to take him whatever the cost. Might consider leaving James my 13 year old son though.
