buddies for my daughter

hi all

just wondered if anyone would like to be a penpal for my daughter, hopefully from Brisbane (south) as this may be a good idea if she could make some friends over the net before we come over.

She will not discuss or look at anything to do with Australia, we are worried cause she keeps telling us she is going to run away if we go. Shes even asked if my brother will adopt her, we know she doesnt mean it but this decision must be making her life so unhappy at the moment

Shes been 4 years ago, she was only 8 then but she is into everything here dancing, gym, athelitics as loads of friends. We have each other and we keep thinking she will do the best out of all of us at least she will be going to school where hopefully she'll make friends easily.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced similar situation with one of your kids, and perhaps give us some hope that theyndo come round

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, i dont have any experience to help you but im sure someone on here will be along soon with some advice!!! Do you think suggesting she writes a for and against list re reasons for going! not going! Then maybe she could deal with one issue at a time, which may not seem so overwhelming. Good luck! -x-

My daughter (then 11) really worried about the move initially and we had alot of tears. However, as time went on she became more excited about the move. One of the things that helped is that we had a 'girly' chat lying on her bed one day and I told her that I was a bit scared about the move because it meant moving to a place I'd never been before, leaving my old friends and knowing no one, starting a new job etc., which were all my genuine emotions but also everything she was feeling too. I'll admit that I did manipulate the conversation a little and it promted Alex into telling me how everything would be ok as we were in it together etc.,

The school Alex was going to organised a pen pal for her before we came which was great as she started to know some of the people she would be in class with (via msn). Ironically, she now has a totally different group of friends.

Hi, We are moving to Brisbane on the 30th Dec 2007. We are staying in Nerang for a few weeks until 19th Jan and then moving into our rental in Birkdale. Our girls are 12 and 9 and we have a son 5. I'm sure we could get the girls to PM her if you want and they could send some messages before we leave. Let us know Smiths Good luck
