Automatic Washing Machines?

Hi guys, please can anyone tell me.....(don't laugh!!)

Do they sell front loading automatic washing machines in Australia? I know when I've been out there, they have been the top loading style, which I really don't like...found them rough on my clothes and not as convenient as UK washers.

I have a combined washer/tumble dryer here in the UK....do they sell these in Australia?

If not, could I bring a new one with me from the UK and it work ok with by swapping the plug from a UK one to an Aussie one?

I know it's easy to dry clothes in Oz...but when I was out there, mine were always like cardboard when I brought them in from the washing line...I like to soften them up in the tumbler dryer....me no likey scratch towels!!!

Jenny

Hi Jenny

Yes they do sell front loaders here & combined washer/dryers(i wondered the same at one point). My friend brought hers over and it works fine just changed the plug & pipes. I bought a new one here.

Hi, in QLD when you buy a front loader, you can get a $200 rebate from the govt under the Water Wise scheme, trying to encourage Aussies to give up their top loaders as use too much water. Have to apply with a form you get from the shop; should take up to eight weeks, still waiting for mine though!
My new tumble drier was half price at K-Mart, $250, my washer was about $650 from Clive Anthonys, to give an idea.

Yes same scheme in WA except you only get $150 back still better than nothing. My washing machine cost $450.

Anyone know if this rebate applies in Victoria.
I visited this store
Store Home
last week in Melbourne.
They sell amazing stuff and at good prices and will negotiate for cash!

It isn't just front loading machines that attract a rebate, you can also get a rebate on some top loading machines, as long as it has a minimum 4 star rating you can get the rebate. I believe fisher & Paykel make a top loading 4 star machine.

I bought a top loader when we arrived (no idea why????) and to cut a long story short made them come out and change it for a front loader,,it was crap ,it washed, made things smell clean but didnt remove ANY marks,,not stains ,,just everyday marks!!! so many of our clothes especially whites are ruined because i put up with it for 3 or 4 months, swapping powders, using stain removers etc ,,but nothing ,,it was just rubbish!!! Retrovision put up abit of a battle in the beggining but when they came, washed and watched the end result even they could see why i was getting grumpy and to be fair they turned up with a brand new top of range front loader. In my opionon dont bother with a top loader and stick with a front loader.I wish i had !!!

Top Loaders are rubbish. They use shed loads of water and don't wash the clothes properly at all. My tops have all shrunk and I use a medium heat on a delicates cycle. Will always buy a front loader (Bosch or Miele)

I agree with you all, front loaders clean clothes far better than top loaders.
