After much searching I have found a company in Australia that maybe able to sponsor me to come over on the temp business sponsorship 457, I was just wondering how easy it is to get permanent residency once you are over and working on this visa??
There would be myself, wife and dog coming over and it is a big gamble to leave our present jobs sell our dream home here in the Uk to move to Oz if we will have to come back with nothing in 4 years!

We are in the sameboat sold our dream house dragged our 2 kids with us came out here on a 457 visa in August & started the process for perm visa in September been told it should take 7-9 months. I had the very same doubts as yourself about getting perm visa & so did Billy until the visa agents told us they are putting 55 plus through for perm visas so thot what the hell. If the 457 visa is your only way of getting to Oz (like it was ours) I wouldnt worry to much altho its never guarenteed. We are here now with our 2 boys & they are settling so whats the worst that can happen we dont get perm (which I doubt & we go back to our family & friends) at least we have had 4 years in OZ instead of sitting back home thinking wot if.

Can I just say .... HOW would you, even IF you came back to the UK, be returning with nothing? .... you will have the remains of your housing fund plus whatever else you have accrued, you wil have a further 4 years working experience in your chosen field with an international flavour to add to your cv ... and the fantastic experience of four years living your dream?
Grab it with two hands and stop worrying!

Thanks all your probably right, its just one of them worries us Brits are famous for!! we worry about everything!! It has taken me so long to find a company interested in me and even thinking about sponsoring me, that now the time has come to start thinking about every little thing in more detail, but with help and support from people like yourselves I'm sure we would be fine!! I just would not want to come back after 4 years!!!

I'm heading for Sydney all being well, we were over in April and loved it we did prefer Gold Coast and Queensland, but sponsor in Sydney and I have family in Sydney as well, so looks like Sydney it is which we voth really liked as well and with having family there I think it will help us settle in easier! We can always drive to Queensland on hols etc But I would like to see all of OZ whilst living there the west coast Perth, outback the works cant wait I just hope the sponsor comes good!!!
Just make sure if you cannot have a skills assesment ie your not of "skilled trade" that the job nomination you come in on is on the 457 list AND the ENSOL list otherwise you could find yourself in the position where you are unable to applu for Employer Notimated Scheme after your 2 years. If you need more info on this please pm me and I will explain more. This is not an issue for poeple like bricklayers as they are skilled but we are here on a 457 which is not skilled trade.
Just wanted to wish you luck with your Visa. We are going on the 457 temp visa! My husband was offered a job in August, her flew out and spent 2 weeks with them end of Aug and the started to process our Visa in Sept.
We had an e mail from our agent this morning to say our Visa has been granted, so we are ready to go! Our house is SSTC so as soon as its all completed we are off!
Thats just how quick it can happen on a 457 Visa (in the space of 3 months)
We too will have to get permanent residency one out there, but our agent said it shouldnt be a problem, we just went on the 457 to get out as quick as poss!
