Broadband packages

Just been checking out an Aussie compare site and the prices seem huge!!

What I was wondering is this... here in the UK we are on an unlimited package with Virgin so I have no idea what our actual usage is, we have downloaded loads of stuff in the past but looking at OZ dl limits that will have to stop. Essentially, we have 4 kids and us who will be using MSN regularly plus we do internet banking and the kids surf regularly too. What I am trying to establish is what package people are finding reasonable to cover their contact with the UK, how much they contact home and how many people are using it to find out how much download limit we might need so I can budget for it!!

Thanks peeps

Simon

I have a 12GB a month account with bigpond, on the internet every day and only ever use about 4 GB a month even with watching a lot of UK tv and sport.I would opt for a smaller limit but the next one down is 600 MB which isn't enough even if I stop streaming tv shows.

we are with iinet, we have 4gb peak and 8gb off peak and are stuggling to use our allowance this month despite long web cam chats to the UK (this all counts as download). We opted for voice over internet phonecalls with this as well - much cheaper than telstra - and are more than happy with what we have. If we blow our downloads the speed slows down, we don't get blocked or charged extra.

Just a note on broadband usage 3 network do a mobile broadband its like your laptop plugged into your mobile phone...thier 1gb allowence gives you 650 emails pm surf 30 hrs, 30 two min videos and 60 music tracks all this with a 1gb limit a 3gb limit gives 2000 emails 100 hrs surf 200 music tracks 100 videos, hope this gives a bit of an insight on what you can do when your on a limit
on another note they launched skype via 3 network so skype to skype free anywhere in the world oz is comming online next the sales guy told me today....john..

Hi there
i see no one told you a price. It's very expensive compared to theUK,and a lot of areas have very mediocre speeds,we pay $70 for virtually unlimited use,but speed is 1.5 meg.(Telstra)
There is far more breakdowns also because they have an overhead sysytem with telecom and electricity.
I think the price will eventually come down, but who knows when....nothing gets done over here in a hurry.
Cheers
Penny
