driving lessons

hi, can anyone advise on this. my son [20] wants to do his driving lessons and test but hasnt finances to run a car just yet. as we expect to get to queensland next august, would it be easier/ cheaper to do this in england or oz. lessons tend to be £20 hour here. apreciate any advice, thanks.

From what I gather you get courses or blocks of lessons at a discount on the normal hourly rate both here and in Australia. I'm not sure of the costs in Oz though. I found one mention of $30 per lesson.

One thing you might consider is that if your son has a UK license, it is easy enough to exchange it for an Oz one (I don't think you have to give your UK one up literally). However, when my OH's cousin was in the UK, she was told that she would have to take the full UK driving test if she wanted to stay here. This was quite a few years back though.
