Talking Braces - here or Oz?

Braces - the teeth type, not the trouser type!!

My 13 year old daughter is due back to the orthodontist in Feb to have braces fitted. She was there at the beginning of this year, but as she still had a few baby teeth was old we have to come back at the beginning of next year to get them done. So, my question is should we delay having her braces done till we get to Oz (we're hoping to be there around June time), or should we get them done before we go? Has anyone had experience of Orthodontal treatment in Oz? How hard is it to get treatment there? Is it expensive? (We're heading for the Gold Coast)

Any advice grately appreciated!

Hi
My son aged 12 was due to have braces fitted in August but at the appointment we mentioned that we would be emigrating January time and the orthodontist said it would be better to have them ftted & maintained in Australia as they may have a different system of braces over there.

Thanks for the replies Rach and Mandy.

It's good to hear that dental treatment is good in Oz Rach. The advice your Orthodontist gave you Mandy has made me think. I'll mention it at her appointment. My 10 year old is gonna need braces eventually too. I wonder if health insurance would cover the cost, or part of the cost? Hum, might need to start saving for that too!

My 14 year old has had braces fitted here on the Gold Coast. You won't find anyone on the GC offering to do it for less than about $5000, (I tried!!) but Peter Grant in Beenleigh is worth waiting for, we had to wait nearly a year to see him and I think the wait is more like 2 years now, but it cost us just under $3000 so my advice would be phone him and get on his waiting list!!!! Beenleigh is half way to Brisbane but worth it, hes a really nice guy and provides an excellent service.

Hi, you may want to pm Ali (moderator) as I am sure she posted about dental treatment a few weeks ago and I got the impression it was expensive. Hope helps.

Many thanks for that Sherie

Have had a look at that link, and should prove v.useful. Thinks I'll talk to her Orthodontist in Feb 1st. See what he thinks. Might actually get in touch with your guy too, and get his opinion, could get him to add her to his list at this same time! Will tell my daughter we have to sell all her stuff before we go to pay for her teeth!

Thanks again!

I would suggest having them done in Oz. Had the experience of having to re-do the entire process when we got here ( albeit not from the UK).
