Its true ,,you dont see cats roaming around here !!im not sure of the exact 'law' but i think they have to stay on your own property or can be picked up by the warden.

It's irresponsible to allow cats to roam around, especially at night, most of Australias native fauna is nocternal and is under threat from cats. There is also a huge problem of ferral cats here, with domestic cats breeding with the ferrals. I have seen ferral cats as big as a medium sized dog, very nasty animals too. So for the sake of your much loved pet and the native fauna it's a good idea to keep them either inside as house cats or get one of those cat runs.

Some people set traps to catch roaming cats. They're presented to the council for disposal. By that I mean, if the cat is chipped you'll probably get it back together with a fine, or if its not chipped its destroyed... probably???
If you don't believe me google it, you will quickly find details on many Australian council web sites.
By way of explanation as someone has already stated they cause terrible damage to the unique Australian fauna & are responsible for a lot of the extinction of small reptiles (maybe even small marsupials, not sure?). The local fauna has developed over many millennia to roam free of carnivores like cats & they just can't escape them... its a killing field scenario for cats.

By the way I'm not a cat hater, I wouldn't buy into the cat catcher scene myself, but they (cats) shouldn't be here. Admittedly its all a bit late for that but the councils are now starting to target stray cats & if your little moggy gets caught up in it all... too bad, its a fine or a funeral.
