First Steps Down Under

Hi
This is my first post, and am wondering what were the first steps taken when landing in Australia. In particular what is the best form of temporary accomodation before we find a rental property. We are a family of 6, looking to go to Hervey Bay. Have just had our medicals and police checks done, so should get our visas very soon (fingers crossed).
Look forward to any helpful advice,Darryl

Hi Darryl

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

I can't help with your query but I am intrigued by your user-name..... Apart from th fact that I live just over the water from you, a gollywobbler is a mizzen staysail on a schooner.

We might have a hobby in common....

Cheers

Gill

THE JONEZYS will become famous soon enough
A short term holiday let would probabley be your best bet.
Just do a google search for the area you want to be in. At least this way you can book from the UK, whereas a rental will be more difficult to arrange from as most agents require a 100 point check.........evidence of income or bank statement, drivers license, passport.
We were lucky enough to have family to collect us and put us up untill we fund a rental.
Good luck.
Lesley

Hi Gill

Thanks for your interest in my user name, to put you out of your misery, Starboard are the largest manufacturers of windsurfers in the world. We have 5 Starboards in our garage hence the name. We also sail a Formula 18 catamaran from Gurnard sailing club, so we might have see out on the Solent.

Bye

Darryl

Hiya Darryl,

We'll be looking for a holiday let next June in Melbourne.

Have you had a look at Australian Holiday Accommodation, All states, All regions we've used them before for holiday accommodation in Perth and can't fault the site.

Good luck.

Rachel

Hello Blaneys

Thank you for replying to my post, however i am wondering what your reasons are for choosing Hervey Bay?
We have chosen it over the Sunshine Coast because we feel that there is a greater chance of getting our 4 children into school without having to change again too soon.We are emigrating on a business visa and need to buy or start a business, the chances of finding a business in Hervey Bay near to the schools appears alot easier than the Sunshine Coast.Which is a shame because we actually prefer the Sunshine Coast.
Our children are Kathryn (13) Bradley (9) Travis (8) Christopher (6).
We very much enjoy the outdoor life our main hobbies are Sailing and Windsurfing.

Bye Darryl

Hervey Bay isn't that far from the Sunshine Coast so you can go visit, only a couple of hours drive. I love Hervey Bay, it so pretty.
