Ielts!!!!!

I've borrowed a IELTS book off a foriegn work colleague for OH and yesterday he looked through it and said he was C**P at this type of thing. This is from someone who has completed a Uni degree. The problem is that foreign students are taught old fashion english grammar and we're not so I don't think it will be so easy. Told OH to give it a go and can only try his best, mind you if it was me taking it we would def fail.

Hi Debs,

try not to worry too much. I did it in July and got an average of 8.5 so it can't be that bad .
Just get him to practice all the time, even though he wont want to, I know I didn't but it's worth it in the end!!!
Do a few practice listening and reading tests as these parts are relatively easy and as many writing as possible as this is by far and away the hardest - especially if, like me, he hasn't done any exams for years. Time is a big problem, you have 60 mins to write a 150 word letter and 250 word essay which is not so easy when you're under the pressure of an exam so this is why it's soooooooooo important to do lots of practice under exam conditions.

As long as he is fully prepared I'm sure it will be fine.

Mark

Hi Debs,

You can order practise materials online from the IELTS website (Splash) and you might be able to fine some free downloads as well.

Good luck. Remember, the test can be re-done if he needs to achieve a higher result.

Regards,

Thanks for all your support. I have faith in OH and also if it was me we wouldn't stand a chance. My 11year old is better at English than myself. Thats a thought, do you think he could impersonate OH, we'd sail through then. Only problem is he's blond, petite and voice needs to break.
