This may seem like a really trivial question.....but never the less, I would appreciate anyones feedback.
We are due to move to Sydney in January, but in the meantime my girls have got a few months at school and will have some of the winter in this country.
Should I buy them a cheap coat and throw it before we leave, or do I get them a decent coat and take it with us???Would they get the use out of a winter coat in a sidney winter,
having never been to aus, I am not sure what to do.
SORRY IF THIS SEEMS LIKE A SILLY QUESTION, it is probably a woman thing
thanks in advance
kim xx

bring a rain coat as it does rain, as to a warm coat so far we have not needed one but maybe its because we have only been here 7 weeks people do say u adjust quickly. My 6 year old twins have only complained they are cold after getting out of the pool and the breeze gets to them. So far I have only worn a sweatshirt 2-3 times i am in a tshirt now and its been raining and windy all week. About 4 weeks ago Aldi here were selling raincoats for kids at $1.99 yes about 80 pence in old money.

Cal I agree with you! I've been caught out by how cold it's been in Sydney, apparently one of the coldest winter's on record! I came over with 25kgs allowance being on a working holiday maker visa, and so left my lovely winter coat at home thinking I wouldn't need it. I could definitely have done with it though, especially in July. I've spent a lot of the time borrowing my boyfriend's scarves!
Kim, I'd say get decent coats and bring them with you (assuming you have more baggage allowance than I did of course!), you're not going to need them in January , but come July they may well come in useful.

You do aclimatise to the weather out there. When my son first went out to Aus, he was desperate to surf in just board shorts instead of having to wear a wet suit.
He achieved this very quickly (although said he didn't really enjoy it that much as his belly and chest got scratched - bless!)
Ten years later, if the sea is less than 25 degrees he won't go in without a wetsuit - and this is the boy who used to go surfing in Newquay on New Years Day!!!!! Aussie whimp.
Jean.

I think it was a very sensible question actually Kim!
I think people assume that 25C over here is as warm as 25C over there...and it just isn't! I get soooo cold in winter, even though my mind keeps assuring me that I should feel warm...
Bring the lot I say! Galoshes, thick coats, scarves, gloves, blankets....
not just for giving me sound advice, but also telling me that it wasn't a silly question. I was starting to think I was going mad, as I am sure some people who read this post probably thought.
cheers everyone
