good question. I have just bought Australia & newzeland magazine its full of loads of good info, just like this sit, i like to just sit and read, so this is great for me. It gives you an 18 month emigration check list, the mag advises to put youre house on the market with 12 months to go.... good mag you can get it in tesco or whsmith, any good mag place really.

We waited until we got our visa, because we would of stayed in our house if we hadn't got the go ahead, but other people have put theirs on the market as soon as they start the processes i think its up to you
sharon
I think its a case of personal preference really. I asked my agent this just after we lodged our application, he advised us to do nothing about the house until we've got our visa in our hand, but I guess he has to say that. I suppose its to be on the safe side in case anything crops up at medicals etc.
Having said that lots of people on here seem to get cracking with selling the house fairly early on in the process. I think also it depends on how confident you are about getting your visa,
Good luck with it all,
We sold up a month before we sent our Visa application...We were going to move whatever the outcome so it really didnt matter to us..Really glad we did too :)

Hi Jo & John,
how spooky my oh and myself were deciding 2day and it looks like sep / oct 4 us ( our visa has only just gone in).If we don't pass we were selling up anyway 2 move schools for the children. So 2day i grabbed a carpet fitter who is working up the road 2 give us a quote so we will c what he comes up with !!!
hope this helps we put our house on the market once we had the meds done 136 skilled, all clearances with DIAC 31st may.....visa granted 7th june!!!!!house still on market had some viewers but we will wait and see ....hope this helps you guys..:)
hi jo &john we sent our skills assessment off on the 23/05/07 about 2 weeks ago, we put our house on the market a few weeks before this expecting it to take a long time to sell but it sold last week, i personally think its best to get rid sooner rather than have the visa and having to wait til you sell before you can go, but then again what if we dont get the visa ?. hopefully we should hear in a couple of weeks if we have passed tra. fingers crossed.
We waited until we had passed TRA and then put it up for sale. We were really lucky it sold to the first people who came to view. Glad we sold it then as there are now 4 others up for sale in that street!
Fab answers, but still a little confused. We have decided we will move whatever as I dont believe my children are that happy at their school, particularly my son. We would consider Cornwall as my brother now lives there, and my parents will move there too when the eventual happens to my very elderly grandparents. However house prices are dearer, cost of living more expensive, and building work and wages not so good as here in the midlands.Would for go that just to move away , so Australia really ticks all the boxes.
I have seen all the lists of different stages, can someone just tell me, if the tra checks are favourable is that the biggest hurdle. We know criminal records are not a problem, so do you put it up and hope the meds are ok?? I guess I HAVE ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION,BECAUSE IF WE FAIL ON THOSE WE WILL MOVE ANYWAY. Are you all renting over here if you are homeless, and putting furniture into storage until you get the flights.
