That is really reassuring. My hubby has 20 years as a self employed bricklayer, I too have 20 years as atrained hairdresser, will I need to send off all my info aswell or will it just be hubby? I am going to be like a leach latching on!!! Run while you can.

Hi jo
i found the tra hard because you have to chase up old employers and they need a lot off info on every job in depth with my oh being a bricky he even had to explain every tool he has used even a hammer and what he used it for
i think this is hardest part but know sitting wating going off my head till i have a repli from tra im sure it will be worth it in the end just keeping fingers crossed no news is good news so the saying goes

guess this is a catch 22 position to be in really,
alot depends on the market at the time and what sort of property you have to sell (going on personel experience our house only took 4 days and we got a cash buyer - we didnt expect to sell so soon and put us in a right pickle)

Guess you could always put it on the market and go with the norm and on exchange of contracts if needed request a delayed completion date, being the vendor often the ball is in your court
good luck with it all

Hi Jo,

Its probably best to do abit of research on the market in your area. Due to the House Improvement Packs the market has been flooded with properties for sale and in our area anything over £200,000 is taking a while to sell. As our house is over this price range we put ours on the market 6 weeks ago and have only had one viewing (our medicals are a week on Friday), its quite hard to decide the best time really you just need to do whats best for you. When we made the decision to sell we decided that if for some reason we aren't successful with our visa then we would still move anyway as the high schools in this area are not too good!

Good luck with the whole process. Don't worry about the TRA its not as bad as you think!

Julie xx

When to sell the house?

We already have our visa and know what date we want to be in Oz for so I am working backwards from that date. (We have already made our initial visit within the 12 month time frame to validate the visas). We want to be in Oz permanently by 1 Sept 2008 (this allows our son to finish his A Levels and get his results.
So, I am thinking put the house on the market at the end of the summer to allow 6 months to sell then rent for 6 months (as that is probably the minimum period I can get) then just extend month by month if need be.
I must admit this process is really freaking me out compared to going through the App for the TRA and Visa. Trying to get the timing right of things will be a nightmare - moving from a house we have been in for 18 years to a rented house then shipping stuff to OZ at the right point so I don't miss too much stuff or get left with too much stuff. We don't have relatives we can bunk up with in the last week or so either so I need to get the timing of the renting right as well. And then it will start again when we get to Oz - how long in a holiday home before we find the right place to rent before we find the right place to buy!
I know I sound a bit paranoid but wonder if anyone who has gone through the process found an easy solution. Confused & Thanks.
